I am getting a new head and Short block
I got my car, 03 S2K w/34k miles, in July 2006 and discoverd the oil consuption was highher than normal and the engine had a funny ticking sound... so I took it to my local Honda Dealer.
After looking at my car and checking the VIN #. Honda decided to give me a new head under a "good faith warranty"- Free head, but I pay for the labor.
After they took off the head, there was a huge scratch on the #3 cyinder... now I have to buy a new short block...
I got the short block from flagstaff honda for $2,200 (with shipping) and my local Honda dealer is charging me $3,500 for labor to take out my old engine and installing the new head and shortblock.... did I pay too much?
Thanks

at 95.00 an hour thats 36.8 hours or 4 days work.
sounds about right to me.
as for negotiate a better price good luck
the techs work off flat rate commission and if they do it faster they make more. If the service advisor charges less he pisses off the tech.
your are kinda stuck with where you are.
oyea and I don't know there hourly rate where you are but most dealers are between $90-110 or so.

That sounds about right. You have no idea how much work it is to swap a motor. You have to pull the motor from the car, swap everything from the old block to the new block. There is a ton of work. Swapping a compelte motor for a complete motor takes less time, but moving all of the accessories from one to the other and doing it right is another.
I personally have built a F20C motor from the short block to a complete motor. It takes time to do. Also there is some $$ in there for the sub contractor (Mach Shop) to do the head work I would bet.
