I dont know how to name it.
Hello, my name is Mikail.
I currently have a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3. Previously, I owned three Honda Preludes in a row.
I am not a Mazda fan. It's actually worst car (mechanically) that I have ever had.
The S2000 was my dream car for years, but first I couldn't afford it.
Later, when I had the funds I couldn't have a two seater because of family obligations. That's why I got the Mazdaspeed.
Now I regret my decision, and plan to trade it for an S2000 soon. My family has more cars now, and I finally can have a car purely for my pleasure... the S2000 that I have dreamed about.
I recently had a debate on the Mazda forums after one of the users started talking smack about the S2000. The reason I dislike Mazda now is because I bought a used car with 76K miles on it and blew the engine within 1k miles of owning it.
I have put 7k miles on new engine, but I am afraid to even rev it. Plus the tranny is uninspiring, and it has a lot of understeer.
After that debate I swore to myself and to Mazde forum members to build my S as soon as I have it and be able to beat any Mazdaspeed anyday, even if I will spend all the money I get from two jobs. I will post all the videos of it on youtube.... I will drive FLATOUT.
Well, the reason for this post is to introduce myself, but I didn't want to post in the Introduction subforum as I don't have my S yet.
Another reason is that after I get my S, I will have many questions and some of them will be noobish as my knowledge is not yet good (I know the basics). Plus my English is not the best, as I have only been in this country for 4 years now.

Welcome to the s2ki. First of all your mazda which is a fwd does not have oversteer, second of all no matter what car you have it just depends on how you treat it. Just because you might get the s2k doesn't mean your not going to have problems it all depends on how the previous owners took care of it, and how you treat it. Third this car wasn't made for straight line speed, if you want that either go fi or get an american car, but i can guarantee that the s2k will take any mazda around a corner even stock
you can make a FWD have oversteer...abrupt lifting off the throttle in mid corner will break the backend of a few FWDs depending on the suspension setup.
Welcome to the forums. I've been here for years and finally bought my S about a month ago. You'll love it. Have you ever driven one?

To the OP, sorry to disappoint you but the S2000 is not worlds above the Mazdaspeed 3. They both have their pros and cons and as already mentioned, stock-to-stock, the MS3 is faster than the S2K on straights. These cars are very different so you can't really compare the two. Anyway, welcome to the forums. Good luck with the purchase and drive safe.
OP: Everyone hates on honda cuz at times it can be obnoxious: (read 3" exhaust on an otherwise stock car...)
but they've never OWNED or REPAIRED one. Anyone who hates on Honda after working on one is plain retarded. Hondas are possibly the most reliable high performance (out of a puny displacement) motor, and the amount of r&d that goes into how the thing is BUILT is amazing. I am constantly amazed at what they did to make it easier to work on the car...
This is from a american car guy, btw. If GM learned from Honda and made easily worked on, reliable, and high output engines...they'd be an exotic car :]

mazdaspeed3 and an AP2 have just about the same power to weight ratio (edge to the s2k). In a straightline, the edge goes to the mazdaspeed simply b/c it has a lot more torque...but the lack of range gives gearing advantage to the S. I would definitely say it's a driver's race there. The S handles better and will do better in a track situation.
Welcome! You know, I came from an 03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege as well. I actually loved that car. It was kinda rare, and tons of fun with the right mods. I know a lot of people have had issues with theirs, but I actually sold it with 70K miles on it, and never had a single problem. I drove it hard too. I had full exhaust, dp, Split Second AFC tuned at 10psi, and some suspension work. I still miss that car
I don't regret the s2k one bit though. (except my MSP actually had torque)

I know that S2000 is not the worlds best car, but its Reliability, easinesss to work, prices on parts mods can beat the MPS while MPS got a lot of ford parts, which cost a lot more than Honda parts.
Plus, when its a dream and what you want it becomes worlds best car for you.

Here are my opinions:
Street racers are douchebags.
Don't be a douchebag.
If you're concerned about cost, you picked the wrong car to make fast.
Start with a factory turbo car and work from there.
You'll be disappointed if you have something to prove to Mazda owners.
Enjoy the car and work on your driving skills rather than building a car.
A stock S2000 is more car than most of us can handle, whether we admit it or not.
