how does gap insurance work
If the car is totaled and worth 15k (for instance) but you owe 18k due to interest, gap coverage would pay that.
I think you jsut drove over some ice. it wouldn't really matter if you had the best stability system on earth or snow tires ... the end result would probably be the same.
It's difficult to judge if it's totalled, but I would lean towards the totalled side if I need to pick one. Like Sabre said, airbags coming out generally means totalled (in most cases). Good luck! At least you are okay ... that's the most important part i guess. The rest is just monetary loss ...

eh, if you had traction control it would have probably saved you.
I tested out the traction control on my moms AWD subaru last night in the east coast snow storm (3 inches). With TC on, there was nothing I could do to make the car loose control. However when I turned it off...AWD donuts

Sorry about your car, good luck with insurance. What kind of tires? I have to admit I've been taking mine out this winter, but only in the dry and with its over 40 (Potenza S03).

i have bridgestone s02's up front and fuzion zr1's in the back.
so does this mean if they total my car, the gap insurance covers the rest of whatever insurance won't give me, and i get the deposit i put down on the car, plus the amount of money that i paid during the time i had the car? (which is 5500 down plus 259 a month x 2 months of payments)?
either way i will have an s2000 in hand. luckily i did not have my carbon fiber hood, trunk, and espelir springs on the car. but if they do total it i will lose my invidia exhaust( which i paid 70 bucks for off some dude on craigslist)
insurance pays for book value of car, gap covers difference between that and what you owe from the bank if its against your favor. so either you get covered or you get nothing. you wont get your downpayment back
im not an expert on this stuff, but thats what seems like will happen

Cold weather and SO2 tires don't mix. "S-O" means "summer only" in my book. Mixing different tires from front to back might also adversely affect handling. I am not familiar with the "fuzion zr1" tires.
I vote for totaled.
My next car will have VSA and side curtain airbags and will probably be an '07 Civic Si or an '08 Accord Coupe 6MT.
