Doesn't CA offer a traffic school option(in lieu of the ticket) which can be done every so often?

I once got a ticket for speeding when I was only following traffic. I reminded the cop of that fact and his reply was " I can't get everybody .but I did get you"
At minimum ,if traffic school is offered in your state and you otherwise have a good driving record, points will probably not be assigned if you elect to go and no notification will be sent to your insurance company. This is what I would expect for 75 in a 65. You still pay the fine and you also will pay for the one day class in Traffic School. The school really is the bargain.

Not sure how it is in CA either but here in TX I hire an attorney for all my tickets.

find a good lawyer.

my last ticket was 81 in a 60, which if I paid the fine like on the back of the ticket, would have come to $275 and would have stayed on my record.

instead, I paid my lawyer $225, and he makes it go away

When it comes to moving violations, my definition of beating the ticket is for it not to show up on my driving record. IMHO, you will have to pay something regardless. I mean, thats how they make money. I don't know how it works for Cali, but if you get a moving violation here in Chicago, it goes on your record as a conviction and your premium goes up.

I recently got a speeding ticket as well and I was told directly by the cop who pulled me over to get a court date and plead guilty. He told me I will probably have to pay the fine still, but most likely I will be put on 6 month probation by the judge. In other words, it will not go on my record as long as I don't get another one within the 6 months. I'll pay the $75 fine as long as it does not go on my record and raise my premium up. This is one direction. Another way is take the risk and plead not guilty. Hopefully the cop doesn't show up and they just drop the case. Again, I don't know Cali, but here they have court fees that you will still have to pay.

Another thing I'm a little confused. You can't afford to pay at most $100 for your ticket? Not bashing, as I am unaware of your financial situation, but I would assume everyone has money put aside for owning this particular type of vehicle.

[QUOTE=shy_guyAP1,Sep 29 2008, 07:55 AM] I'm not familiar with California law, but there are two options.... here in VA at least.

#1) Pay it off, bight the bullet.
#2) Go to court, plead "No Contest" even though you probably said something incriminating to the cop already which is an admission of guilt in most places.

The myth that if the officer doesn't show it gets thrown out is untrue. At least here in FL. I officer can have the trial rescheduled if for some reason her cant make it. Most of them don't mind going becuase they get off-duty pay which is time and a half-ish. Around here it's about $35/hr. Your best bet is to plead no contest and see what is ruled you can ask for a lower fine and no points and if you have a good driving record they will probably grant it.

What about traffic school. You still have to pay, but it doesn't go on your reccord or your insurance. They even have them online now, so it is really easy.

I don't know if traffic court is the same in California as in my home state of Wisconsin, but I would only suggest this- take it to court and plead INNOCENT. Not 'No contest", plead innocent.

This is what I did, and rather than fill the courts with this nonsense, they held people over and allowed them to plead their case in front of a DA. Just for doing so, they dropped the fine, and cut the points. If you plan to plead 'no contest', it's not even worth your time to go to court.
