I Grin
Just bought a new MY03 last night Spa Yellow and i tell you i got the feeling! woohoo now I'm lookin to buy a hardtop from hardtopguy any experiences? How long does it take? great quality? any problems? and finally suggestions for a new owner? (yes i know about the break in period) what about periodical oil checks?
Congratulations mrhands0me, I remember how I felt when I first got mine. It sounds like you have a good handle on the little nuances of initial ownership of this car. And yes, buy the hardtop from HardTopGuy, best service and best prices (no BS, I'm serious).
As far as suggestions for the new owner:
1. Change the differential fluid at about 1000-1500 miles. I know this sounds early. I don't know what it is, but the factory fluid must take a $hit beating from the diff during break in when you see how it comes out. I think Mobil 1 75W-90 and Redline 75W-90 are some of the most popular choices for fluid refill. I then change the diff fluid out about every 10K miles.
2. The car will experience better shifting on fresh tranny fluid. I'm still running Honda MTF, and I change it about every 10K miles.
3. It is important to check your oil often. A lot of people have also waited until 10K miles or more before changing to synthetic. I went with synthetic at about 7500 miles. I don't think that something miraculous would have happened on that additional 2500 miles on dino oil. Mobil 1 10W-30 Full Synthetic seems to be the oil of choice for most folks.
4. I don't know what your experience is with driving RWD, but be very careful with the S2000 on rainy days and when it's cold out. She'll bite.
5. And most importantly, enjoy the car!
