I hate parking outside...
It happened on Wednesday, on a rare day when I couldn't find parking inside our protected garage.
Luckily, I just happened to walk outside to enjoy the weather whilst on my 15 minute break or I would have missed it. This moron, typical 30-something wannabe yuppy, driving a old beat-up pos truck decides to park (parallel parking) in a city permit-only section of our street, then, once he realized he couldn't park there, backs into my bumper as he was leaving. I see this from the park and start running down the hill, noting the impression of the bottom half of his square trailer hitch and two small gouges from the rough bottom edge before pursuing in my car...

...so I lose him at a light, but easily got his license plate, went to a police station two blocks away and made a report. On the way back to work, I see his truck now parked on the opposite side of the block, unoccupied. I left my dig.camera at home, but had a disposible (crappy, probably would even come out well) camera handy for just this sort of thing and proceeded to snap some pictures of the suspect's vehicle. I also left a polite note on his windshield, advising him to call me.
If I didn't have a relatively new car, I probably would have shrug it off after a few weeks. But it is new, and it is leased, so I'll eventually have to get it fixed anyway, so why should I pay for his stupidity? Moreover, it's a bit too small to make an insurance claim, although if I wanted to play dirty...heh.
I've spoken to him once since that day and I'm trying to get him to pay for a touch up job. If he refuses, is this even worth pursuing in, say, small claims? I've id'd his vehicle and have all his information, including where he lives. Where do I go next? (remaining civil and within the limits of the law here...(^_^))
