OP and others who think that the "S sucks in snow" are full of crap. Stick S02s on a Hummer and it too will suck donkey balls in the snow. Do yourself a favor and buy snow tires.

Just drove a 180 mile trek on slick, lightly snow dusted roads using Dunlop Wintersports. Not a single hiccup from the car as long as I didn't try anything fancy. And I was even passing people, driving in the express lane.

Don't try to save winter tire $$$ AND drive an S in the winter. If you plan on using it through winter, buy some tires.

Driving in the snow can be done. I unfortunatly had to do it once. To save the details, basically it sucked...Had to do 30mph MAX in 6th, start out in 3rd gear just to get moving. Although I had the S02 tires on at the time, having proper snow tires still can't help the fact that A) most people can't drive in adverse conditions because they have lead foots B) The s2000 is a light weight RWD car, traction will always be a problem in snow no matter how you look at it.

Traction is a very minor issue as long as you can drive for the conditions.

The S is my first RWD car. I was used to FWD traction abilities, yet in the first months of ownership (picked it up last Jan) I could still get the S moving from a dead stop on a 6% grade incline on snowpacked roads with studless snow tires and no extra weight in the trunk (Thanks to traffic in front of me coming to a dead stop because the SUVs had to chain up ).

It takes some babying of the throttle, and you will spin at the start, but it is not TOO difficult. The biggest issue is to not stop moving on an uphill slope if you can avoid it. Momentum, even if just a little bit, makes all the difference.

There are certain things you DONT want to get yourself into. Side-sloped roads with stopsigns that are icy are a bad thing..ask me how I know this

I concure that many people have lead feet. But that goes back to what everyone else is saying that it's a lack of adjusting their driving habits to the conditions.

Despite it being easy to correct, the fact remains that the car is a lightweight RWD car that does have traction problems. If a lightweight RWD platform was so good for traction, why arn't all rally cars built the same way?

Thats just the point that I'm getting at

However, I will agree that most likly the largest problem for winter driving is not the car, its the driver. Because of the driver the RWD platform has recieved a bad name due to it being less forgiving to the average driver.

so much snow here in the portland, oregon area. drove home last week during the first snow storm and made it home ok but the drive which usually takes about 25 minutes was easily an hour. snow on the road is bad but icy roads after snow packed is really bad. 15 mph tops and the s was breaking the limit. The s is parked during this 4in accumulation. If you must drive the s, get snow tires. you can do it without a lead foot. drive safe.

Three days after getting my car I hit some black ice on the freeway on ramp; I wasn't speeding or being careless, just a slight mistake of tapping the gas at the wrong time. Anywhat, I slid off the road and wrecked my front bumper on a side marker/metal pole.

So, I am making the car a 2004 with new front and rear bumpers/ exhaust tips. Also, I have 2004/5 wheels coming.

Rock on.
