I Have a VIN Question?
I just got my VIN # for my 2001 yesterday, JHMAP11421T001785. My original build date was 11/10 and my sales rep told me the VIN assignment was done on 11/21.
For those of you who received VIN #'s, didn't that mean your car was shipped or in the U.S.? I was led to believe that the car is still in the build state with the VIN # assignment. Can anyone clear up what the assignment date means?
Thanks for your help!

I received my VIN when the car was sitting at the port of entry in the U.S. (Portland, OR), at least that is what my salesman said. He said it was being loaded to come to VA.
Your car should either be there or on its way to your dealer. Should be there within 2-3 weeks

JMARK,
It's starting to get close. Keep us posted, I'm figuring mine will arrive around 3 weeks after you get yours.
Good luck on the sale. Do you still have the option to trade in if you don't have it sold by the time your new one arrives?

Thanks everyone! I think by having the VIN #, that the car is built and "ready to" or "has been" shipped. Each day that goes by gets more exciting. I'm sort of glad we are in "winter" because it makes the waiting a little easier. For those in nice climates it must be p-a-i-n-f-u-l to wait!

You need to ask your dealer if the car is in "Assigned" status or "Shipped" status. Some of the cars that are in this build came to the U.S. not having the seat belt recall done and the government won't release them until that has been done. If you're car shows up as "shipped," you can bet it is on the way to the dealer. If it is "Assigned," it is in the U.S., but hasn't left the port yet. Regardless, it is in the country!
Hope you get you're car soon!
