Default I lost my hat, wind blew it off!

So I'm driving my S today just cruising along at freeway speed and I get hit with a side gust of air. Whoosh, there goes by baseball hat!!! I felt it lifting off my head but by the time I could get my hand from the shifter to try and grab it, it was already gone. I look up in my rear view mirror and some prick in a old Chevy truck ran it over. No way I could stop and go back for it as there was too much traffic. Sucks cause that was my Steeler's hat, now I have to go and buy a new one. Oh well, I'll have to go buy a cheap hat for driving purposes so I don't lose my good one again.

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago but I was not on the freeway. Parked the car and walked back to pick it up. After that happened I bought a desert camouflage floppy hat at the Army Surplus Store for those windy days. It has a draw string that I can put under my chin.

This actually happened to me also on a pretty busy road, but I happened to be lucky because when it blew off there was no one behind me. I pulled over and turned down the next block and ran as fast as I could to get it before more traffic came. I just couldn't let my favorite hat get run over, i'm a cheap bastard.

I saw a guy crash his snowmobile because he tried to stop his hat from blowing off his head. There's stupid, and then there's embarassingly stupid. Don't be in the latter catagory.

BTW, I flip my hat backwards and drive Ken Griffey Jr. style....

My wife lost her visor on the SacS2KDays III drive two years ago. We couldn't find it either after we fell back and tried to find it.

Late one night, I was driving on I-40 as part of a trip drive from San Francisco to Dallas. I had the top down, and with it being rather cold I had my Dallas Stars Stanley Cup Champions hat on to help keep my head warm. Obviously it flew off or I wouldn't be posting here. What I should have done was pull over immediately, but I was in a bit of shock so continued driving for a few moments (at 80mph, mind you) before I decided I need to double back. So I memorized the next mile marker, went about three miles to the next exit, doubled back for five or six miles to the next opportunity to return to eastbound. The whole time I had images of it being run over and ruined, or just plain not being able to find it, and how stupid I was for going back for it, but it wasn't replaceable, so... I went about 40mph in the right lane, trying to find my hat in the HIDs. Luckily I saw it flash by on the shoulder so I hit the brakes and pulled over. Even so, I was a good bit ahead of it. I turned on my flashers, jumped out and ran back to the hat. And it was DARK. Not a single damn light anywhere except my car. It was rather spooky. I didn't have the slightest clue what was out there. I could only just barely even see the hat when I got up to it. Hat in hand, I put the top up and continued my journey to the hotel...

I've been driving top-down the last 11 years (obviously not just in the S) but I've never had a cap blown away (touch wood). I usually adjust the cap a little tighter for highway driving. Afterall, it's just a company cap and I have a spare.

Before I had the company cap, I used to put on a flare fisherman hat like these:

for highway driving. The profile of such hat makes it much harder to be blown away.
