did he pace you for at least 1/5th of a mile? that s typically the legal minimum, YOU YOURSELF could probably beat that ticket, i beat a very similar one.. but for $100 i would bet a lawyer would get you off for sure.

Pace tix are really easy to get out of. So long as you didn't open your mouth and say something stupid like

"how fast were you going sir"
"about 70-75"

if you said that , you are screwed, NEVER ANSWER A ? alwasy ask a ? in return

"hhow fast do you think i was going? .... i don't think so"
"i paced you"
"no offence meant sir, but i think that pace was faulty, there was no way i was going that fast"
"how fast were you going?"
"well what really matters is how fast YOU think i was going, i respect you have a job to do and will follow the proper channels to plead my innocence... thank you for your time."

You have just said a while lot , politely, about nothing.

Dan,
Sorry to hear about your stretch of bad luck. I wish I knew an attorney I could recommend. I'll ask around. And good luck with the job prospects. With your background you will soon have your choice of work.

just one question... did he pace you in an Official Police vehicle?? if not should be easy to get out of. Pacing is only legal when they are using a certified speedometer to record it. Good Luck.

Hi Dan

Don't feel bad, look at S2K, he's a Red Sox fan. Unremitting misery, betrayal and disappointment.

As to finding a lawyer, when I have a new litigation matter, I go to the court house as soon after assignment as possible. I sit in the judge's court room for at least some law and motion and a bit of a trial if I'm lucky. I then decide whether to "paper" the judge or not (one free challenge in California). Along those lines, if I needed a traffic court laywer, I'd hang around a bit and watch the regulars at work. You'll be able to pick out the good ones. Then, ask for a card.

Good luck buddy!!

Actually 2x6spds, I can't argue with that.

It's refreshing to see that there is some sympathy out there for us Red Sox fans!

You'll spend more on your lawyer than on the ticket. WTF! Wait till you get your notice in the mail, and see what it reads. I got an 85+ ticket in a 65 and it was only a $135 ticket and they let me do traffic school and take care of it in the mail.

The time it takes to go to court, pay your lawyer, plead your case, etc. you will spend more money on the ticket than if you just paid the damn thing. If you do traffic school, the insurance company never has to know about it!

Of course, your state may be different...

The ticket was $175, and I have it in hand (given to me by the officer at time of purported offense). He was extremely nasty, so I never got a chance to answer ANY questions. I had my license and reg ready by the time he made it to the car, he made a few nasty comments, grabbed my info, write the ticket in his Bronco (some SUV-sized vehicle), returned to hand me the ticket and some more nasty/smart-ass words, then bolted.

He claims I was doing 85+ and ticket says he paced me, ticket written for 75+ in a 55...I was barely going faster than surrounding traffic, and this guy had just turned onto the highway himself. He was stuck close behind a Ryder-style truck and another car behind him. I slowly passed, realized what it was after I did it, and he immediately jumped into my lane and flipped the lights on...it must have taken me a good 6 seconds or more to pass his vehicle, so it's not like I was flying.

Oh well, I'll look up some lawyers and challenge the damn thing. This kind of offense drastically affects Mass insurance with stupid points...

I have a similar promblem. I got a ticket for 50 in a 25. I was really going 40. I was going the same speed as the other two cars beside me until I decided to stop on a yellow (the other two cars ran it). The cop came beside me and then asked me to stop around the corner. This is a $271 dollar ticket and one healthy point on my record if I plead guilty. I am going to fight this all the way. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas out there. I can not afford this harrassment. Thanks!
