Thumbs down I took out my dipstick...

I came back home after a 30 minute trip to 4 different stops. So car was on and off 4x within the 30min period. I drove the car normally, never took it above 6k.

I came back home, and decided to check my oil level. I opened the hood, and noticed it seems hotter than usual when I usually check my oil level after a drive. I raised the dip stick, and saw a distinct smoke coming out of the hole.

Should I be worried?

I have a ap1, 60,xxx miles, and my temperature gauge is at the normal 3 bars.

as long as you heard no clanks or rattles come from the inside and you had at least 2 to 3 bars of oil; You should be fine.

It's awfully hot in there after that driving. Could have been steam.

I've seen this on occasions tho mine burns a good amount of oil.

Could be a clogged pvc type valve. Drive the car around for a while under similar conditions, then with the engine still running, take the dipstick out and see if smoke comes out the dip stick tube. If it does I'd suspect a pvc valve. Otherwise, with the engine shut down, remove the oil fill cap and look for the smoke and sniff for the smell of scorched oil. The acrid smell of the scorched oil would be a bad sign.

When I checked the oil, it was on the very last bar. So i drove the car to kragen, bought a quart, and fill her up.

Then i drove to a nearby gas station to fill my tires with some air.

when i came home, took out the dipstick and no smoke. couldnt smell any scorched oil or coolant.

should i be worried about the previous smoke coming out of the dipstick hole?
