Default An idea for our "valet" keys.

I thought this would be a good idea if Honda could have done this.

Since the key has a chip in it that is required in order to start the car, I thought Honda could have put a slightly different chip in the S2000 valet key.....

When using the valet key the car would recognize the chip and go into valet mode which doesn't allow the car to go over 4000rpm (in essence a 4000rpm rev limiter).

Just a thought....

That is REALLY a great idea!! (although I don't think I will EVER EVER EVER let a valet touch my car ... if I HAD to, it's a great idea! )

What a great idea! Maybe send it in to Honda. I have heard that they do monitor these posts. Maybe pass it on to the dealer. But, like F1 Sandy, I will never let a valet drive my car.

Good Idea! Also why not have a solenoid that is activated when using the valet key that shuts off the fuel supply to a small reservior (between the engine and main fuel tank) which holds enough fuel to run the engine for only a short period of time, such as 5 minutes. Ample time to park and later retrieve the car. Only restart with the normal key would reset the solenoid to allow fuel to flow into the small reservior once again from the main fuel tank.

This valet key thing was done on the Corvette ZR-1's. A second key was used to turn off half of the injectors essentially cutting the power in half. They never kept it up nor did they do this again. It was a neat concept but for some reason, owners of these cars seldom used this feature. I guess people who own these kinds of cars do not normally let others drive them.
