A few answers...

This was in a little town called Olive Branch, just across the bridge from Cape, where I live. The cop was sitting on the side of the road with his parking lights on, and I passed 3 cars, but they were bunched up really tight, it took only a few. I've always been told to pass cars as fast as possible to minimize the time in the opposite lane, and leave less margin for error.

Sorry but I'm unfamiliar with your laws in the US. Don't they require evidence of some kind to convict you? If he has no evidence that you were speeding, how exactly is the DA planning to prove that you were in court?

Update:

The cop that stopped me assualted a fella last night with his...uh...stick, then pulled a gun on him, he was on the evening news about it. Young punk cop with something to prove. My tickets are at the DA's house right now (he is a close friend of my girlfriends), we'll see...

Take note everyone.

Yes, evidence is required and the word of an officer is above the word of a driver, UNLESS that driver is a member of a car club and participates in drivng exercises which now puts his qualifications above that of an officer.

Anyone (GREG STEVENS!!!) want to get around to issuing Official S2KI Membership cards for everyone!!!

My experience has been that if you go to court and the only witness against you -- the cop -- doesn't show up, that you're home free. It sounds likely that this sweetheart will not be available to testify. It may turn out to be a cakewalk.

The cop gave me a 99 in a 55, and it's got me worried. It is out of state, and if the ticket does stick (assuming I can't get it reduced or dropped), the judge could easily take my license for 30 days. The 30 days doesn't bother me, it's the SR22 insurance. HE could also deny me the "Driver Improvement Program", you know, the Saturday sleep fest. If that ticket sticks, I could possibly lose my car over the insurance inflation.
