I have a 2000 and have had this problem almost as long as I have owned the car. It is in for its 30K service and they are "looking into it". Right.

This problem was diagnosed well over a year ago on this board (not by me, but I did make a bit of noise when it was my car ~11/00). Since then it has been brought to the tech line's attention (while a dealer was replacing injectors for the problem) so it is no secret. The data has been in front of AHM for a long time.. they will do what they want with it.

I don't know if I have a MAP sensor issue, but on my car if the engine is hot and I turn it off and then start the engine back up while its still hot, the RPMs will go to idle and then drop to where the car shakes and it sounds like it is going to die, and then it goes back to idle.

Would this be a MAP sensor related problem?

Does not sound like it is, most MAP failures affect operation at high throttle openings.

Another excellent thread on the subject...

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ight=map+sensor

And the first thread I started just like this one...

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ight=map+sensor

I have 25 names on my list and I stopped at this thread. The sad thing is that what Chris said is probably true, this may not help at all...but I'd like to try. When you do a MAP sensor search you'll get 213 threads, at least 50 are directly related to this exact problem. I'll call my service dept today.

I've had the same problem recently. Mine is a 01 with 10k miles on it. I've thought it was the clutch after reading about others clutch problems, but I'm been very easy on it. If it continues, I'll take it in for sure. But I agree, it is tempermental, and I may not be able to reproduce it to the dealer.

I've also been wondering if I changed the car's character after I adjusted the throttle cable, maybe making the throttle response and the computer misscommuniate a little. Glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem. I've experienced it in 3rd gear!

I had mine replaced under warranty and it cured all my high-rpm ills. By the way, I was told by the tech that the warranty on MAP sensors is 3 years/50, 000 miles because it is part of the emissions system.

My '01 also have the jerk back and forth problem in first gear since day one. I've always thought that was my driving. Anyone else with similar experience?

That has happened to me....and I get this hesitation when I am accelerating...I always thought it could be my driving...doesn't happen all the time...

So is that MAP problem...or just bad driving... I have driven a stick all my life and never had anything like that happen...

The map sensor was acting funny on me around 40,000 miles. At ~ 7,500 RPM...the engine seemed like it was going gasping for air and couldn't get it.

joes2k told me to unplug it, unbolt it, and tap it a few times...and the car was back to normal.
