Default igloo intercooler on your SC

The builder who did my s2000 has a civic that just dynoed 347hp at the ground. Ond of his modifications was running the hoses from his vortech intercooler to an Igloo Ice chest mounted in the rear. they packed it with 3 bags of ice and gained 14hp on the dyno over the normal setup. He said the ice lasted about 45 minutes of run time. His intercooler was ICE COLD to the touch.

Nice Trick. A very inexpenisve modification with a lot of gain for the buck. Neat track trick!

By the way I now have 8000 miles on my setup with not one problem...dave at liberty 1 is awesome.

Thats a common setup. I know of a alot of people who do this. And Ive seen the results first hand also. Its pretty impressive when the intercooler is ice cold to the touch on a 100 degree day.

Great for the dyno, but the cooler, ice, and extra hoses add another 40-50 pounds to the car. So the benefit of the 14 hp is somewhat offset by the extra weight, at least for real world driving.

Forget the extra HP, its the consistency that your looking for. Heatsoak mean anything to you? Cold intake temps are worth their weight in gold (performance wise AND for the saftey of the engine) when youre hot lapping, for instance.

I don't know how it will translate to the track but because of heat soak i think it will make a hell of a difference. I can feel the difference now if I pack my vortech intercooler with ice...i'm thinking some hose a couple valves n a removable ice chest in the trunk....If I do the setup I'll run it both ways and let you know...it's hot where I live..

This is a good setup, especially on a car that has a computer that is pretty aggressive at pulling the power when things heat up.

A guy I know with a taurus sho (yes, I know, here I go again), spent over 20k on a custom "Intracooler" that makes use of freon. In 110 degree texas weather, his intake temps never go over 50 degrees.

Now THATS the shit.
