Default Ignition doesn't recognize key is gone

I've had my MY'07 AP2 for about 6 months now and just recently started having this strange thing happen. Sometimes when I remove the key from the ignition, the car still "thinks" it's in there (like I open the door and the car starts beeping). I haven't actually tried starting the car yet, so I'm not sure exactly how confused the car is ... but am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

maybe it's possessed.

try starting again, and if it does, you need to exercise it... with a turbo kit.

I've had that happen to me a few times as well. The car wont start, its just a small catch on the entrance of the key hole that isn't resetting. So its just annoying, not a security concern.

Mine did it one time when it was brand new. I think the above poster is correct about the catch. It will probably self correct after the key is inserted a few times.

This happened once on my '07. The key switch was not fully turned off.
It kinda pops out a little once the key is removed but it didn't, causing the beeping sound.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. It seemed strange to me that it didn't start happening until several months after I bought the car - so I wondered whether maybe the key was starting to wear down, causing that reset failure. I might try the spare key and see if the same thing happens.

This is a VERY common issue. Happened (and still does) to my brand new 07 at 500 miles on the clock. Check the Library forum and you will find TONS of people with the same issue.

I've gotten used to it now, as it won't usually do it in colder weather. In warmer weather, I just turn off the car and make sure I click the key back "harder" than normal and it's fine.

A little annoying, but I've heard from people who've attempted to get it repaired under warranty that it caused them more grief at the end (scratches in the interior, etc.)

I thought this was just an isolated incident on MY 07! I thought I was crazy @ least that's how they made me feel! I took my car to the dealer, and they stated they could not fix it because they could not "recreate" the incident. I told them and explained to them what was going on, but still they looked at me like I was crazy.

It still happens, I have to double key the cylinder in order to get that mechanism to unstick and lock before leaving the car! More annoying than anything else.. oh well.. glad to see Im not the only one!!

Happened on MY06 when it was really hot outside. I'd take out the key but my doors wouldn't lock.

Check the "Tell Honda" portion on this site. There's a long list of people with this problem. Like the above stated, it's more of an annoyance than a serious problem.

I don't think this is an issue.

The lock is just new and needs to be broken in a few times. Mine used to happen a lot but not much anymore.

You just removed your key in some odd way so the close lid didn't snap. Either put the key back in and remove it in a quick motion or wiggle it a little so it snaps back. You'll see what I'm talking about once you try it.

All the beeping and other stuff is caused by the key not being removed properly.
