Thumbs up Is it illegal to remove front license plate?!

Just wondering that I've been doing a lot of reading and noticed that almost everyone has their front license plate removed. I personally want to remove it as well but was wondering if it is illegal to do so? I know, here in Illinois, I've gotten pulled over before for not having it on my old prelude..I just got a written warning..but just wondering..is it illegal for me to remove it?
thanks in advance guys

It really depends what state you live in. I live in CA and by law must have both license plates clearly displayed on the vehicle. If you're stopped you'll probably get fined and be asked to correct it.

I live in LA and will I put on the front plates? NO!

The legal requirement is completely dependent on which state you live in. If the state requires the display of a front licence plate, then you are doing something illegal to not have one on the car. However, enforcement of the law is up to the local officers, and some may care more than others. If you choose to not run a front plate where it is required, don't be surprised if you get cited for that, but you may get away with not having one for a long time if it isn't a priority of the local law enforcement agency.

The front plate is required in Texas but, they are spotty about enforcement. I have not had a front plate on in 10 years (6 in TX and 4 in MN) and have had no problems (This was on my TransAm and my S). Personally I think that the S looks much better w/o the front plate so for esthetics I don't put it on.

In Massachusetts it's illegal to remove the front plate. I haven't used a front plate in years and I haven't been sited. I've been pulled over a half dozen times or more (and yet to receive a citation). I have the lowest insurance rate one can have in the bay state (I drive pretty spirited one may say). That being said:

-If you car is totally riced out, expect officers to cite no plate.
-Racial profiling is real.
-If you do get pulled over, make sure the front plate is in the trunk and on the mounting plate.
-If you are questioned why you don't have the plate, say that you are missing a screw from when you just detailed the car and didn't want to mount the front plate unless you could have secured safely to the car...
-Be courteous to police officers, and have your registration and license ready before he gets to your window. This will make it less likely that he

In Ohio, front plates are required, but enforcement here in the Cincinnati area -- from my experience -- is zero.

I removed my front plate about a week after getting my car home from the dealer, after watching other cars in the area. Around here (north side of Cincinnati), about a third to a half of the cars I see now lack front plates. That includes sports cars (Corvettes mostly -- lots around here), SUVs (especially the Escalades), and even minivans driven by soccer moms.

But of course, if you can't do the time (or pay the fine), don't do the crime.

You have to have a front plate in Colorado too... but I've never had a cop here pull me over for that...

I do have to have my front plate on though... cuz of where I work. It's an AFB and they follow all Colorado laws... and since the Security Police on the base here are so bored (they don't get too much drugs, murders, theft here) they start enforcing the little things... so I couldn't drive the car onto the base without putting it on. Sux... but what are you gonna do?

So... I'd say that you should just take it off... Looks better...

Drive safe...
