Default I'm one lucky guy!

Well...this all happend about 10 minites ago..I got off work around 3am and took my usual "highway" McCoulagh BLV. This is a 5 lane highway that has just about 0 traffic at this time in the morning...WELL..I was cruising in 6th at about 98mph...I was curious as to how quickly my s2k would pull on the top end after the clutch/ and lightweight flywheel...So I downshift to 5th and lay on it...It seems to pull MUCH harder then before...5th tops out around 128 (could be wrong...was looking at the road) So I ease it into 6th....I pass the exit where I usually get off...and keep laying into it I'm hitting 151 when I hear the dreadful sound of my Beltronics 920 beep once warning me of a KA ban. I shreek, I know if I got clocked going this fast in a 55mph the cop might as well shoot me ( I probably would not have stoped) I SLAM on the brakes...The abs doing it thing where the wheels would lock up roll lock up roll..I see the headlights of the cop now...he is locked onto me (radar detector on 9 it's higtest rating) I wince as I look down at my speedometer that reads a Calm and collective 58mph! WHEW!....My heart is racing as he passes by...He never blue lights..makes an attempt to turn around...Nothing...I'm one lucky guy. Just thought I'd share my experience with you guy's.

EDIT: if not for all wheel disk brakes and a quick reflex I would not be sittin in this chair typin this out right now...Thank you honda for making our brakes some of the best out there!

Well, skipping over the "you're an idiot for doing that speed on a public road" posts that I can see coming from a mile away here, you have convinced me to put the best damn radar laser jammer blocker doodad that I can find in my S. I only drive it occasionally so I do drive it a bit aggressively (not 150+ MPH mind you) so I am going to get dinged hard someday guaranteed.

So, instead of asking what the best system to have built into the car so that I am as stealth as I can be, I will do the searching in the forum.

Congrats on living through that. Hitting the brakes hard at that speed (and I do happen to smell a little bit of cow poop in your story) is a serious gamble even with the great brake system we have. Doesn't take much to start a car tumbling, I have seen it happen.

By the way, if the story is 100 percent true, what did you use to get the stain out of the seat and smell out of the car?

James

I too will not judge your high speed excursion on a public road.

However SLAMMING on the brakes at 150MPH is, quite franky: FVCKING STUPID. At those speeds to be in ABS is so maniacly dangerous is not even funny.

Next time brake hard, but no so bad you lock up the wheels. He probably wouldn't have pulled you for 70 in a 55 either, and even if he did it's just a ticket. Brakes locked at 100 MPH+ hitting some loose gravel, pot-hole, oil or whatever and you are spinning. You'll definatly wreck the car, and perhaps kill yourself. Not worth avoiding the ticket.

Whew, lucky detector but keep your eyes sharp since we are constantly hunted.

As for the 150 braking comment. Some cars (not hondas) actually have brake systems that work fine at 150MPH.

Actually the brake system still works fine.

Braking so hard the ABS comes on at 150 MPH is bad in any car I can think of (Short of an F1 car MABEY)

That's what I was thinking too. The brakes on my previous 330i (which I do not consider "performance" brakes) were easily superior in stopping power, and that was dragging down a car that weighs something like 450 pounds more.

The S's brakes are good, but could be a lot better.

The S2000 has some of the shortest stopping distances from 80-0 and 60-0 of any production car made. I think there are around <10 cars that do a better job. Most of the people who track their S2000s (including me) get by fine with race pads, SS lines and good fluid. For those of you who appear to think the S2000 has sub optimal brakes, what problems have you actually had?

Most bimmers have much better stock brakes....a lot of M3s don't even need after market pads for moderate track uses.

I've had 2 hondas in a row (prelude and s2k, both bought new), and have a used bimmer now. It's my impression that, stock for stock, honda brakes are not as good as those of bimmers, for instance.
