Default Importing an S2000 to Australia

I spent several hours trying to figure out if I can import and register my left hand drive (LHD) S2000 in Australia. The forum has some scattered topics and the Internet has partial information, but I couldn't figure out a definite answer. The thing is I got a very good job offer and I am seriously considering to move to Australia. However, I cannot imagine life after S2000. There seem to be different rules for importing a car permanently vs. temporarily and also there are different rules for cars 15 years or older vs. newer cars. I was thinking that if it is impossible to have a newer LHD car registered in Australia, then I can buy a '94 NSX as an alternative. Still, I cannot find any definite answer is it possible to register a LHD car there under any circumstances. So, my question is has anybody ever attempted to do that and what happened. Aslo, if there is anybody who knows more, I'd appreciate any help.
By the way, my wife thinks I am an idiot because I told her the decision whether to accept the job offer depends on whether I can have my S2000 with me there. Of course, I can always buy a new one there, but they are way more expensive in Australia. Also, I know I can convert it to a RHD, but I am not willing to do that.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Try this link mate; http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/veh...cles/index.aspx

With the exchange rate the way it is you are probably better off buying a second hand one over here. Unless you've got an AP2....

I checked the web page. It looks like I can import the car, but to register it it must first meet the requirements, which means they might ask me to conver it it a RHD. Why is this so confusing? Can't they simply say "yes" or "no"?

And yes, I got an AP2, which is not available in Australia.
On a separate note, does anybody know a good webpage where I can find listings for used cars for sale in Australia?

www.carsales.com.au

www.carpoint.com.au

Might also pay to send someone an email from that first website, might get a better answer
(http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...les/index.aspx)

However, being a government organisation might take them a while to get back to you this time of year

Where you moving to by the way?

cheers

There is a guy in the Socal forums who exports/imports cars. You should try posting there to see if he can answer your questions. I don't remember his SN. Sorry.

just fyi.

there was a post on nsxprime about importing an nsx into australia and to meet all of the requirements, the owner had to do a RHD conversion, along with several other little things. also, the purchase price of an nsx, if you could find one (they are very rare from what i have seen there) is considerably higher than the price-point here in the US.

i think your best bet will be to buy an AP1 over there as converting will be very difficult, time consuming, and expensive.

here's a link to the nsx RHD conversion:

What about trying to purchase and import a RHD S2000 from Japan?

It can be done.

It will take some time and money, but it can be done.
