Default Info on 2000 S2K

I am new to this site, but not Honda. I just sold a 2001 ITR (original older owner) and am looking for a S2000. Found an '00 with claimed 15K on the odo (doing a Carfax to be sure). I thought I heard some problems with the 2000 model. I have searched this site to no avail; any advice on such a car and buy? BTW, the asking price is $18.5K, fair?

Thanks in advancce for any info.

I would try to get a 02-03 model if you are on a budget. I dont know of any severe "mechanical problems" with a MY00. But I do know there are a fair amount ascetic changes and small TSB's (Clutch Buzz, Spark Plug re-tourque, etc) A different ECU map, oil jets added to the block, revised transmission are just some things that are cleared up from the early models 00-01.

Below is a comparision list from year 00 to year 02

the contrarian point of view (from an '00 owner, of course!) and random thoughts:

1. the '00 is the original car!

2. you should have it checked out to make sure that all tsbs have been done- there were a couple on the '00s, and easy to get fixed-

3. i like the price (again cause i have an '00), but it might be a bit high unless the car has mods on it that added to the value, and that you like- also possible that i just have no clue as to the value! a 7 year old car that only lost $13k of value (again, cool by me!)?

4. there is nothing like a 9k redline!!!!

if you can get over the fact that its 7 years old, plastic rear window, no clock, no traction control, then you're good to go

i did

Thanks for the quick replies. The '02 and higher models are my preferrence and there seems to be a good supply of them; just thought the '00 I asked about was a good deal?!

Thanks -- Steve

If you buy a used AP1 you should consider having the retainers inspected for cracking.
