Default info needed on plastic rear window tear

I did search, and no info about this was covered. Only about upgrading to glass soft tops.

here's the thing guys, i am planning to buy this another s2k, but it has a decent sized tear on the plastic rear window. And most of you guys will say, Do the glass top conversion. But i do not wish to do so. I just want to save as much money as possible, since I won't be riding it long and i was satisfied with my old s2k's plastic window.
I saw the honda part assembly for the soft top, and it looks like the window part is de-attachable from the main soft top. I was wondering if i can just replace this, or Do i have to buy a whole to stoft top also?

well, let me know guys.
thanks
John.

I was under the impression you must replace the whole fabric top to repair just the plastic window. It would be nice to just buy a new plastic window though.

You can buy just the plastic window for the 00-01 softtop. It zips out. It's Honda part # 86317-S2A-003 and it costs around $200.

^ Really...that's news to me. I need to look into that. I want a new plastic window, but also thought I had to replace the whole roof.

you have to take the whole roof out to get the window out. its attached under the rain rail to the body with some clips and stuff that you can't get out without removing the top

You can get a new window for around 200 plus shipping. To install it, you have to remove a lot of the interior plastic pieces. You do not have to remove the top. The window will unzip mostly from the top but at the bottom there are many pop rivets that you will have to drill out in order to completely remove the window. After you unzip it and drill out the rivets along with two brass snaps, you'll zip the new one in and then use a rivet gun to reinstall the bottom of the window.

It looks like it would take the better part of the day to install it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. I believe the helms manual has this proceedure outlined. I love my helms.

I plan on doing this someday. I actually prefer the way the plastic window looks cause it's the right proportion for the car and I run stock class auto-x so an update is illegal. I feel I could take care of it in the future. I bought the car used so it's kinda too far gone now.

Oh, I just found my TSB on the replacement of the window. I'll email it to you if you PM your email address.
