Information on Alaska and S2000's Please.
Hi,
I recently recieved my first duty assignment in the Air Force. I am going to be stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska (near Fairbanks). I am wondering if anyone knows if there are any autocross events, car clubs, or anything pertaining to sports cars there? Also, how many months out of the year do you think it is possible to drive the S? The only car I have is a 05 Rio. I know I'm going to have to find something for winter driving. My wife won't let me get rid of the S2000. I don't want to get rid of it eiether. Thats why we are going to trade her car in for something a bit better suited for poor winter driving conditions.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. There isn't much that I'm finding on the net about Alaska and sports cars.
Thank You.

A winter driver (or in this case, a plain cold day driver) is probably in order, but there may be some areas of Alaska that are driveable several months a year. I'm not familiar with the terrain all that well. Just get something FWD for daily driving if at all possible.
I don't recall ever seeing anyone on here from Alaska, but I'll come visit you
I've been wanting to get to Alaska for a long time.
I had a girlfriend who used to live in Alaska. From what she's told me, you're going to want something that drives very well in the snow. You're also going to want something that you don't care about messing up - the ice, salt, sand and snow are going to do a fair amount of carnage. In the summer months, the S2000 should be cool to daily drive.
Two great vehicles for that terrain are the older Toyota 4Runners and Landcruisers. I say these two because they were highly capable offroad, are fairly cheap today, and you don't really have to worry about the miles. Early to mid 90s versions are best. If you go the Landcruiser route, PM me - I can help you out on a few leads and what to look for.
