Initial '04 Thoughts
Some of the improvements are on an '03. Having not owned an '03, I can't comment clearly. From what I've seen it minimally has the glass rear window, two pegs on the floor mat, at least part of the audio upgrades.
after 3200 miles and one oil change i can say car uses no oil at all, the oil was very very dirty, even though the dip stick seems to show transparent/clean oil. snap to maintain, honda filter looking small and inexpensive to buy...easy to change oil...this thing goes like a supercar and is maintainable as a...honda.
David,
I'm glad to see that so far you seem to be enjoying your new '04. Despite all you're "pre-purchase" misgivings about the 04 from the other thread, I predict that by the time you have 1500 mi on your odometer you will be fully convinced that Honda did not make a mistake with the latest incarnation. Sure, at first the VTEC range will seem a bit short to you as you are used to the 9k redline. But you will quickly adjust and find the next gear VTEC surge just as rewarding. You already sound like you're softening on the "purported" increase in midrange grunt
. I think you will find the car just as involved and rewarding when pushing on the two lane blacktop too. Especially when the surface is less than smooth and the car remains more composed. Personally I think all the changes have been positive. The lone exception might be the changed steering ratio. I definitely appreciate the better feel from the reduced boost at low speeds, but I'm not convinced that they also needed to lengthen the ratio as well. It's still quite quick and feels good as it is, but I just don't know that it was necessary. But that's pretty much a nit pick. If that is the only possible fault I can find with all the changes that were made, I don't have much to complain about. One small thing I fully agree with you on is the placement of redline on the tach sweep. Top dead center is by far the best place for me too! Now about that stereo. It may well be better but it's still pretty woeful...
