Welcome aboard Rod! I looked at the Boxster "S" before I picked up "Electra". Then they came on with the list of options. While the price of wheels hit me it was the price of the floormats "and optional passenger compartment lighting" that I threw in the towel.

Thanks for the kind follow-up guys and I will stick around for a while. Don't worry it takes a lot more than a guy with an attitude to chase me away. Like I said before, I feel sorry for him... Anyway, I believe one of you requested a pic of my 2000 Boxster 2.7... I'll give it a shot! I'll post them together once I get a chance to snap a few off of the s2k.

I drove a used '00 Boxster (not the S) at Carmax. The car had 12K miles on it and the price was $34k. Not sure what options it had except that it had a 6 disk changer installed in the center console.

There were a few things I liked:

1) Engine note was sweet.
2) Rear engine design, no noise from the front of the car, a little strange at first but got used to it.
3) Car felt very balanced and controllable, slid the rear end out a bit around a mild corner, scared the salesman a bit but the slide was deliberate and controlled.
4) A Boxster has a little more storage because of the space in under the bonnet.
5) Good exterior styling.
6) Revved nicely.
7) Very smooth power, your going deceptively fast before you know it because of the smooth way the car puts the power to the pavement.

Things I didn't like:

1) Pricey, even the used one was more than a new S.
2) Interior was no better than the S.
3) Can't see the engine from above the car.
4) Slightly less power than the S.
5) No 9000 RPM redline!

I may not have owned a Boxtster but a 20 minute test drive gives a person a good feel for the car. Now, just because I have 1100+ posts doesn't mean my opinion is worth more than Rob's, I think he gave an accurate account.

Your definitely correct about one thing in particular... The exhaust note on the boxtser is a little slice of heaven! I didn't mention it because I didn't have anything to compare it to since the breaking is still 500 miles away on the s2k. There's nothing like the sound of the porsche flat six at high revs! Don't know too much about the handling of the cars on a track but I have heard that the Porsche will allow you to slide the rear a little making it more fun and easier to maneuver on the track. I know there are a lot of things I'm going to miss about my Boxster but for the money I'm saving, not to mention the attention to detail, I'm very happy with my Honda! It's kind of funny... I never thought I'd ever hear myself even mention Honda and Porsche in the same sentence but it just goes to show you that anything is possible!

Rod,
That is a beautiful Boxster, looks well maintained and cared for. Love my S2000 but would have keep the Boxster if money were no object. However the S2000 is a much better deal (and in many ways better performer) by far and I can understand the motivation.

Ok... call me a jerk..... but... we already know just about everything about the boxster and the s2000.....the S2000 has been around for 2.5 years... to compare against the 5 year old boxster...all of the magazines and a zillion people have made the comparisions and posted them......

I can t believe that the s2000 has a better stereo. Then again, I have never driven a Boxster.

The stereo has to be my #1 and perhaps only complaint regarding the S2000.

BTW, the black/silver boxter looked very nice.
