Installed my white hardtop (with pics)
I was very surprised at how easy this install was.....It took me 5 hours, but that included taking pics during the install, and being fairly methodical.....I could probably do another one of these in 2 - 2.5 hours, without the instructions - it was that straight forward.....There was a separate kit of bits and pieces for my MY2000 model, which came without instructions, but it was all fairly obvious how it was all put together.....The original console on the MY2000 is swapped for a new one, so I've ended up with a spare console.....If anyone happens to need one because theirs is broken, let me know.
Doing this install made me appreciate how well the S2K is put together.....All the panels and trim pieces fit perfectly, and come apart so easily.....Just like jigsaw pieces.....This was obviously all part of the design concept for this car.
The final installed hardtop fitted like a glove.....It was perfect - no drafts, and only one (easy) adjustment to the rear locks was necessary.....The major difference I notice now is that when the hardtop is on, you hear a lot more of the engine (revs), instead of the exhaust (which normally predominates with the soft top).
IMO, this install can be done by almost anyone with just a little mechanical knowledge, and half a day to spare.....Three socket heads, a screwdriver and a knife is almost all you need.....I took photos as I went along, so I'll try to have them posted in S2Ki's FAQ sometime soon.....I hope that these will be of some help to those who have difficulty following instructions or are scared of making that first move with the screwdriver!
Just in case you're sitting on the fence over whether to go buy the hardtop, here are a few pics I took after the install.....I think my S2K looks pretty sweet.....All I want now is a hardtop for my AutoArt model.
