Insurance Advice
I received my insurance renewal from State Farm and it increased again even though I have been insured with them for 5 years and have no accidents, tickets or claims on my record. I have a quote from Allstate that is significantly lower and am considering a switch. Does anybody have any advice or opinion regarding State Farm vs. Allstate in terms of service and payment of claims? I have heard that Allstate can be difficult to deal with when you need to file a claim. Also, is anybody aware of differences between coverage for track events between Allstate and State Farm?
Thanks
Thanks
I had State Farm here in NJ before they backed out and started cancelling everyones policy. I was forced to use Allstate because it's getting impossible to find new insurance anywhare here. As far as comparisons, actually State Farm was cheaper but they were harder to work with than Allstate, so I don't know what to tell you. Then again in NJ, everything is backwards and difficult when it comes to insurance.
Maybe they're raising premiums everywhere to cover the losses they say they incurred here.
I never checked into coverage for track events.

Allstate dropped my parents because of 3 claims filed in the last 2 years (two windshields and a minor accident). They had been insured with Allstate for about 15 years at that point and had zero claims until the first of the 'magic three'.
Ace10, $500 to $700 just for installation, what do they make S windshields out of, diamond? I recently had the glass in my delsol replaced (same thing, broken semi tire came up and smashed it) and glass + installation came to $217 incl. tax. I hope I never have to replace this one.
never replaced the glass in my S (knock on wood), numerous other vehicles, including some big sport-utes. what i'm talking about ($500 to $700) is the "list" or "insurance" rate. when you call a glass company they ask if it's an insurance claim or not. if it is, then they submit a higher price to the insurance company, which is subject to a capitated or negotiated rate. i assume that they either pay a % or a flat rate. just like what the docs do with health coverage. some of the big name glass companies will float a huge price either way. and if the glass guy really sucks, then they get to hit you up for a trim kit or gasket set, too.
i would guess that $200 to $250 sounds about right for the S.
point of the story... in no way, shape or form is $117 ($217 net of $100 deductible) worth getting dropped by your insurance company.
my landcruiser has yet another crack in it and i'm not getting it fixed until my inspection comes up in Dec.
the worst thing is that i don't get them when i'm tailgating someone. it's always the freakin dump trucks, flatbeds and semis that just spew crap out onto the roadways. those stones bounce for what seems like an eternity as they home in on the front end of my car. my S has two or three chips from only 2,200 miles.
