There was a commercial on tonight by a major insur. Company... I forgot the name. Basically they had a spokesman stated that they feel it is their duty (high rates???) to keep fast cars out of young drivers hands. They had lots of snap shots of a young guy driving a Z28 and pealing out down a street. Is it me, or does anyone find this commercial extremely disturbing??? I see this as 1) a reason for them to raise rates on young drivers and 2) the fact that they have a gov. monopoly and are abusing the power. I wish I remembered the insur. companies name so people can ban them. Sema is probably rolling over.

I've seen that commercial you're talking about...I'm not positive, but I think it might be Allstate.

Its always scary to see a careless driver with alot of power, but that doesnt mean its a 16 year old . .

Its just as scary so see a 30 year old mother on a cell phone driving an Excursion, or heck, even an 80 years old driving a Geo metro, and not keeping it in the lane. . .

Go figure, their rates are some of the lowest.

Monopoly? How so? Last time I heard we can buy insurance from anyone. (Of course, people in assigned risk pools have fewer options. But that's because those exhorbitant rates are still less than what they'd pay on the open market, and their carrier has been assigned to cover them.)

If I were a young driver, I'd consider it my duty to keep my money out of that company's hands. As an older driver, I want no part of AllState no matter how cheap the premiums may be because of their decades-long dismal history settling claims.

There is only one corporation in the millions that are out there in this world that i despise, And it is ALLSTATE.

I HATE ALLSTATE, i will not bother telling you the wholse story, needless to say if you are with them. LEAVE before you need to make a claim, they may handle your claims good once in a while but they will SCREW you every chance they get.

ALLSTATE ARE THEIVES.

Yup, I'm also on Miata.net. There's a monster flame on this one. I'm not even gonna write about it, cause it just gets me incredibly angry (I'm 19). Check out the thread...

Don't read anything into this, but I read a statistic that some 60% of all automobile accidents have a male driver between the ages of 16~23.

I can see their point, but do not necessarily agree with it. And I don't think it is justification to raise anyone's rates.

Did you all see in the news that State Farm is going to change their rates to favor larger vehicles? The reasoning being that they have fewer injury claims from their owners.

Of course the flip side is that people in small cars (like ours) will not get the preferred rates.

BTW: I dislike State Farm. Used them over a decade ago and will never use them again. They cancelled my insurance when an uninsured driver hit my car and they had to pay since I was covered for uninsured motorists. It didn't matter that I had nothing to do with the accident.
