Default Insurance Prices?

I'm (Hopefully) buying an s2000 this spring.

Is anyone paying more for insurance than their car payment?

I just got a quote from geico for $2587 for 6 months full coverage $500 deductible.

That's $430 a month, more than what my car payment figures out to be.

These figures are all based on a 2002 s2000 with about an $18k price tag

I might as well buy two s2000's, and keep one as a spare instead, using the difference to pay for liability on whichever one I want to drive that month.

I'm 24, and have an average driving record, a few minor things, 1 comprehensive claim, the normal stuff.

Does anyone else have a company they use that is easier on s2000's?
Or am I just screwed?

If I can't get coverage for less than my car payment i'm going to get a personal loan instead, and keep only comprehensive on the car.

Any comments, or am I preaching to the choir here?

Try other companies, but depending on your location/age/history, if you've gotten a high rate from one quote, you'll likely get similar quotes from other companies.

The S costs a lot to insure.

Insurance rates are going to vary based on a bunch of factors, but $2587 for 6 months sounds pretty damn insane. Where are you located and what's on your record?

that is crazy

My Geico runs about $400/6 months with 300k coverage.

I have a few extras added (red arrows) that bring me to $447

another one of these threads

Only four things are important in regards to insurance cost:
driving history, credit, age, location. Insurance is different for everybody. The guy paying $400 for 6 months may pay over $1000 in a different city/state.

There are about 0923480239480935484 threads like this... do a search for "insurance"

Most states require liability insurance. Collision and comprehensive are at your option if you don't have a lien against (and didn't lease) the car.

So after calling and getting 2 higher quotes I have decided that I had better brush up my credit score a little so I can get a personal loan instead of a car loan.

The way I look at it: I can buy another s2000 plus pay my liablilty insurance for the amount I would pay for full coverage.
I'd rather have a spare s2k than a "wreck one get one free certificate".

i pay $503/6 months for full coverage and $500 deductible. i'm 24, excellent credit, no accidents, 1 speeding ticket from just under 3 years ago. i live and work in irvine, ca. i use mercury insurance though, not sure if that's good or bad. hehe

i'm the only driver on my policy. i've been with mercury for a little over 8 years now.
