Default Insurance Rates on 2002 vs. 2001

For some reason, there is a $400 difference in my friend's insurance quote per year when getting quotes for an 02 vs. 01. Why is the MY02 so much more expensive to insure? I can't think of many differences in the two model years except for the rear glass. Does it have to do with safety? Thanks for any guesses...

Wow, that is a big difference....

I got a pretty good deal on my S2K insurance mainly cuz I have multiple cars with them. The S2K is my weekend pleasure vehicle as they call it along with my E46 M3 thus I only pay like $350 for 6 months, about 700 per year.

Any more and I would not have gotten the car but this is about the same as what I pay for my Bike so that is pretty cheap.

A lot depends on where you live since I found out Portland rates are actually almost as high if not higher than Cali based on the fact that a lot of cars are stolen there and shipped off with the large number of ports there.

good luck,
rick

Wow, 2 cars, wife with perfect driving record....we pay $289/mo....dang.

Anyway, as for the difference, it is probably based on the replacement cost of the 02 as compared to the 01. The extra few thousand in price difference could be an issue as well as MANY other factors because it's two people.

The '02 has a higher book value than the '01, so that increases the comprehensive part of your coverage premium. I don't know if it could account for a $400 annual difference, but I guess it's possible...
