i have State Farm, and my agent told me that as long as it wasn't a competition event -- that i was covered...
i believe his exact words were something to the effect of, "we insure your car, not you or where you drive it. as long as you're not racing the car on a track, we will cover anything that happens." his implications from 'racing' were bumper to bumper style racing...
i called him and asked when i first purchased the car and then before my first event... the answer was almost the same each time, and only the phrasing was different.
still, i've never seen this information in writing. but with State Farm, they route all info queries such as this through agents... so, if he says it is so, then it should be so. still, i rarely track (usually only 1 or 2 DE's a year), so for me it's not a regular issue.
