Vin, moving from Hawaii? WHY? My girlfriend's entire family lives on Oahu and we eventually plan on moving there. But to answer your question, NJ does have one of the highest insurance rates in the country. Unfortunately, for me it was recently surpased by NY in the latest surveys. I would call ahead to one of the agencies, State Farm, Geico, etc. There are so many factors that go into car insurance (age, occupation, location, marital status, income). I'm 29 and there really isn't any great deals around here even with a nearly clean record (1 ticket last 6 years plus drivers ed every year) I pay $2200+ per year through Geico full coverage. Cheapest rate I could find.

ok, you asked for it. I'm 29 & single with no points on my license. I pay about $2,200 a year through Liberty Mutual.

On the other hand, from what I remeber of a trip to Hawaii the overall cost of living in NJ should be cheaper.

The cheapest insurance you can get in NJ is NJ Manufacturers but the require that all their insurees have clean licenses and reserve the right to cancel coverage once that's no longer true. Met Life offers good rates and as for Geico, it's not available in NJ.

I'm currently under All State but the car is under my fathers name so i get it real cheap.

NJ is quite expensive in the car insurance market so expect it to be more...but as Tom pointed out...overall cost of living should be cheaper in NJ than Hawaii since NJ is mainland.

I have NJM (under my parents name) & I'm 26. . . Currently, the S2000 is running me $1400 per year (no points) as a third car on the policy. . . Though, my '94 Si still costs me $1300 as a daily driver. . .

I'm probably still coming out cheaper by owning both cars. . . Go figure. . .

State Farm and AIG have said they are pulling out of the auto insurance business in New Jersey but I'm not sure how long that will take. I currently have USAA after being dropped by State Farm after a car was hit and then stolen. USAA is reasonable I pay about $1,200/year for the S2000 and about $900 for my '92 Maxima. The only catch with USAA is that you have to be military or ex-military or someone such as your parents have to meet those requirements and be insured with USAA.

If I remember correctly NJ Manufacturers required your employers membership or some such thing, not sure though.

USAA IF you can get it: I'm paying about $1k (multi car discount, $500 deductible on everything, 30 yrs old)

You typically need to have been in the military or a close relative of someone who is/has.
