Default intake to meet my requirements

Hey guys im new to this board and have read probably every topic here on intakes. I have changed my mind about 3 times because seems when i find one that meets my need, it has a really bad downside to it too. maybe somebody can help me out better.

at first i liked the idea of the aem v2, because of the sound and peak hp it makes, but i live in florida and hydrolock can be a problem.

the k&n was a good option but since its right in the engine bay it causes alot of heat soak, and the cai hydrolocks too....

ive pretty much narrowed it down to the snorkel, but i heard that you have to cut the top off your hood....

the comptech was really nice too but i heard of problems with the prop bar and im not sure if it will produce the power the other intakes do cause of the location...

And i dont have the money for a j's or a mugen....

Im looking something for better throttle response (around 3-4k), decent sound, no chance of heat soak or hydrolock, and i dont want to have to cut or modify anything too much to the car. what do you guys think i should go with? right now if anything im leaning towards the snorkel with a cooling plate...

also i heard the comptech doesnt really have the throttle response of a snorkel, since with the snorkel all the air is pressurized in there

hydrolocking hasn't been a big problem for me... (knock on wood) i have an AEM V2 and have driven with t through a few days of rain. but if it's a big concern, then i think u've chosen the right path, snorkle+drop in filter!!

Well for an alternative that wil REALLY give you more cool air intake at all apeeds, but will not make a different sound, but will ABSOLUTELY not hydrolock, read here:

I think the K&N FIPK with the AUT cooling plate is the best combo for the $$.
Otherwise go with J's or Mugen if you can afford them.

What about adding a "diverter" valve? I think they are AEM and I have seen them on Ebay in the 3" size. Basically, I think they open up if too much negative pressure (suction) occurs in the intake, i.e. it is trying to pull in water.

I've had an Injen (similar to an AEM) and a Comptech. Power wise I can't say I notice much of a difference between intakes. The Injen had a nice growl to it though.

If your afraid of hydro lock get the Comptech or a snorkel type intake. As for cutting the hood, the Mugen is the only intake that I know where you need to cut the hood.

I love my Comptech, bummed that I had to lose my strut bar but the intake was more important at the time

you are only going to hydrolock your car if you submerge the filter in water, so unless you are driving your car through puddles, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Its your call though.

I went with the K&N FIPK and the AUT Cooling Plate. Sounds excellent and the butt dyno can tell a difference.
