Default Interior A-Pillar Molding

The driver's side plastic molding on the A-pillar in my car is all scratched up so I wanted to replace it. Has anyone done this before? If so, do I need to remove the molding that goes along to top of the front window before? I know there are two fasteners that hold it on to the A-pillar itself. Where should I pry?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Step 1: Pry the top part out, slide up and out.

You are done! There are 2 pressure clips holding it in place that just need to be popped out. You will not break it, the clips will break before the trim panel does.

Ask me how I know...

Has anyone spray painted theirs? Mine look all jacked up... I spray painted my windshield wiper holders a couple years ago because the paint was coming off.

Any downsides to spraypainting something like interior trim?

You have to be very careful any time you paint plastic. It's very easy to end up with poorly bonded paint the flakes and looks even worse than before painting.

There's paint specifically designed for plastic, so make sure you get the right stuff if you go that route.

Dupli-color makes a good product just for interior pieces, be it vinyl or plastic. Preparation of the surface (clean with TSP cleaner) and use of adhesion promoter is the key to a great finish.
