Default Issue with shifting '04...

I don't know if this is by design or something going on my with car only. When I let off the gas and push in the clutch to shift gears, there's a half-second delay or so before the engine rpms begin to drop. So in order to make a smooth shift, I either need to shift very slowly or slip the clutch. Neither are things I like to do. None of the pre-'04 cars I've driven have done this. Does anybody else's '04 exhibit this behaviour? If so, does it bother you? Have you been able to do anything about it?

TIA.

Hmmm, I'll go for a drive later, and get back to you...

That sounds right. The reason I notice this is because I usually end up shifting from 3rd in a high-rpm range into 5th or 6th because I have run out of legal speed. I usually have to pause for at least a second for 7000rms of 3rd to drop down to about 3000rpms so I can get into 5th at about 45mph.

I noticed this too, it made me angry because i couldent chirp 2nd gear and it felt like the clutch was slipping. It happens to me when making quick shifts at Redline. ive already adapted and changed my driving style. u have to let the revs Drop.

I'm confused, is this considered a flaw in the '04's tranny?

Does this pertain to the clutch delay valve issue Elistan, or is it something different?

I just figure it is due to the engine's momentum, but it could be ECM controlled. I haven't worried about enough to warrant much of a discussion, but I'm sure there is plenty of expertise out there to clear the air.

Completely different, this is before I attempt to engage the clutch. Time line of events:

1) Accelerate in 1st gear.
2) Hit 5000rpm or so.
3) Simultaneously let off on gas and push in on clutch pedal.
4) Revs stay at 5000rpm for perhaps 0.5 seconds then start to drop.
5a) After waiting for a time, engage clutch and get back on gas. OR -
5b) Feather clutch pedal out to slip clutch while gettin back on gas to smooth the engagement. OR -
5c) Engage clutch like I normally do and have car lurch forward.

I suppose it could be something mechanical in the throttle body or such, but my initial impression is that it's somehow programmed into the ECU.

Throttle response appears to be identical to 00-03 cars in every other way.

I don't really notice any delay in RPM drop on mine and I don't have to hesitate at all. Since they did change the clutch valve perhaps it's just the slightly different engagement point and action that's messing you up? You know how it is when a particular physical routine has been burned in to your memory banks. Anything else seems strange. The only thing that bugs me is the growly sound the clutch makes right as it's reengaging the drive train. I found myself rushing my engagements at first because it sounds so strange. Just another one of those weird, quirky noises the S makes.

This is normal and is a function of several things. My '01 does it but no way is it 1/2 a second of delay. I believe it is primarily controlled by the ECU and is an emissions control function. There is also momentum caused by the flywheel. A lighter flywheel might reduce it somewhat. I'm not sure if the aftermarket ECU replacements act the same way.
