Default ITR vs S2000

I got my first ride in an S2k today and it was amazing! Thanks to Brandon for giving me a ride! I sure the Injen CAI had something to do with it but it sounded like my ITR engine, that's gone through puberty and gotten deeper and stronger. Anyway this presents a internal struggle within me.

1. Keep the type R. The type R is the best handling FF car (stock of course) in the world. Plus the vast aftermarket will allow me to get S2000 like power and more ( Toda Spec B's tuned in with make about the same as stock S2000's, making power up to 9300 rpms ). I'm already a spoiled kid for getting a ITR so I shouldnt make it worse by getting an S2000. The ITR is much more practical with back seats and a cargo area about 2x the size of an S2000.
Finally, getting an S2000 will cost me est. $4000 if I sell my ITR for 22500 and can find a S2k for 26500 of course. This money could be used for mods.

2. Go for the S2000. No FF car will ever have the balance of a good MR or FR car. My shifts are nice and short but my tranny cant hold a candle up to an S2000. I wouldnt have to feel that I have to mod an S2000 because the car is already making the power that I want from my integra. The S2000 is so much more classy than a type R and my ITR will never look as beautiful as an S. Finally, I really like the fact that it's a convertable.

I have to pay most of the difference so whether the money goes to mods or toward a new car matters not to me. One quasi-off topic question: how do you sell a car that hasnt been completely paid off yet? Do we have to pay it off first? I may ask for $10,000 ( our downpayment ) and then tell the buyer to take over payments. Will they have to figure out a new loan? Is there another way to do it?

lucky you... id personally stay with the ITR... i mean youre insurance will go higher and you shouldnt really compare an ITR with an s2000! of course you can get more hp with f/i, natural aspiration and of course, NAWZ but i still wouldnt trade it in for an s2000...

ITR 203:

I've driven a Type-R a while back and I was very impressed as well. The handling inspires confidence like only a FF car can!! Excellent turn in and body control, and phenomenal stick. I didn't think it was that much faster than my old GS-R, that is, until I got back in the GS-R and drove it again. Big difference!! Not just power but especially chassis stiffness and GRIP. But I think it would be tough to get $22500 for it. I've seen as low as $17K around here. Depends on your year/mileage/mods I guess. If I had waited a year and gotten the Type R when it came out I wouldn't have been as motivated to switch to the S2000.

To answer your question about selling your car before pay-off: you can't have someone take over your payments for you. No bank I've heard of will do that. What you need to do is have the buyer write a check to your bank to pay off the car, and write you a seperate check for the difference. I recently sold my GS-R, and the buyer had to get a loan of their own, have their bank write a check to my bank to pay off the car, then cut me another check for the difference. Sounds a little complicated but it's not too bad. Just make sure the money is in your account before you hand over the keys.

Good luck deciding!! I think both are excellent cars. Keep looking for good deals, maybe one will come up that you can't pass up. You could try posting your car up for sale to see what kind of offers you can get too.

okay, Ive had both.

The cars are completely different in my opinion. They are both awesome awesome cars.

I think the type R is more racey...if there is such a word. I think the VTEC in The type Rs is more pronounced than the S2000. But the S2000 is indeed much classier in my opinion. I remember the first time I drove my friend S2k.,,,...I was like
"I m getting one. haha"

the Type R has a bigger aftermarket source , which makes it more fun , and more accessible to fix up your car. One thing I liked about the type R was that it was alot roomier.

And it was easier on the car to launch ...( if youre into the whole straight line speed) at approx. 5600 rpm and roll into VTEC, given that you know how to launch the R.

But the RWD of the S2000 is just heaven. Launching at 8 grand is not the wisest choice, but it is extremely fun. Also, the handling aspect becomes much of a new adventure.

also..just to let you know, when I changed my Type R to the S2000 in insurance. My insurance dropped by approx. 7-800 a year. Which caught me by surprise.

I think it might be due to the theft rate on the type Rs. since so many are stolen.

I dont think that youll be missing out too much if you stick with the type R, because you already have one of honda's flagships, but, if you decide to go with the S, you're in for a treat.

totally different cars man, the only resemblances is it's dedication to performance. ITR is a rad car, I wanted one, but instead got a S2000. ITR is much better daily driver, well, that is if you don't mind a harsher ride and quicker acceleration

why trade my type R in? Well, because honestly in stock form, i cant say I'm 100% satisfied with my power. I like the engine because I love high revvng powerplants but it actually kind seems lacking even when VTEC kicks in, probably because it sounds so good that I expect to be going 10 times faster . Also, I hate the fact that the car is a symbol of the import scene. It gets you respect but only from a certain niche of people. My car has already been vandalized once and I really dont want it to happen again. I'm always worried taht some kid with a civic who wants a B18C5 engine and tranny will get one and I will be the victim. The S2000 engine doesnt bolt on to anyother car My transmission is nice but i dont think it will ever be as good as the S2000's.

I think I can get 22500 for the car. It is a 2001 Nighthawk Black Pearl with only 6000 miles on it. If I cant get at least 21000 for the car when the car has 7500-10,000 miles, I basically cannot afford to get an S2000 so maybe your right, ayrton, I should put it up for sale and see what kind of offers I get. Despite the low mileage, I cant get too much from it because my rear quarter pannel area was damaged in an accident and a couple of months ago, right after I got it fixed, someone vandalized it ( maybe why insurance is so high? ) I will get all of these cosmetic problems fixed and acrua certified before I sell it. Some guy is selling his 2000 with 38k for 21000 around here so even with my mishaps, i think I could get 21500 at least when comparing with the market price around me ( I have 30,000 fewer miles that him for godsakes!).

What is everyone's opinion on buying a used S2000 anyway?

Thanks for the replies, and keep the opinions coming.

ITR 203,

I had an ITR and traded it in on my S2000. I miss the ITR for the practicality and the make-no-excuses attitude. It was an incredible car to drive, very flattering and forgiving. I don't miss having to worry about vandalism every moment.

The S2000 has more guts down low, more power on top, is a convertible, has unique styling, and has better fit and finish. The steering on the S2000 is not as good as the ITR though. Also, if you don't have another car, you're gonna regret selling your ITR. The S2000 has essentially no room to carry anything.

As for the money, you'll never get $22,500 for your ITR. Maybe from a desperate buyer, but as a dealer trade, you'll be lucky to get $19,000.

I found the insurance on the ITR was twice that of the S2000. Actually, if it was not for the insurance, I'd still have my ITR! I could not justify paying that much just to insure the damn car (by the way, I'm married, over 30, no tix, no accidents, insure my house with the same company, all the discounts -- it was still over $1,200/6mo. for the ITR).

Good luck. I'd keep the ITR until paid off if I were you.

I had a Civic SI before I bought my S2000 and of course I realize that the SI does not come up to the ITR's ass but I do have a comment on the insurance. My insurance with Statefarm dropped $600-700 when I bought the S2000. Very strange but I'll take it non-the-less.
