Well this morning my wife (who leaves for work earlier than I) called me at 7:30 to tell me she had gotten half way to work when she had a flat tire! Anyway, she always helps me change tires when we autox, so I know she knows the basics, (you know, loosen the lugs before you jack up the car, etc.) but she was unable to get them off with the tire iron in the car. I guess they were just too tight. I haul myself to her location, and by the time I get there, a good samaritan had helped her change the tire. Unfortunately, they put the spare on the rear! So I'm now changing two tires to swap them.
The rear tire was totally shredded! The damage above was in the inside edge! I'm pleased she was able to keep control of the car, but a bit disappointed that she did not notice that the tire was going down before it failed. I guess the stiff sidewalls that make the tire such a great handler, also mask a tire that is low on pressure. As we are changing tires, we notice that someone has hit her car! WTF! The damage was not there durring our S2000/RSX meet on Sunday, so it was very recent!
Talk about a double whammy! I had to go through this before my morning coffee! Damn! We decide to swap cars, and I bring her car home and put the front tire back on the front, and mount our Kumho Victoracers on the rear. Now I've changed 5 tires, all before 9:00 and coffee! Now it's time to call Tire rack to order a pair of rear S-02s, the other tire is about 50% worn, and I guess I'll keep it for a spare, spare, tire. Not too sure what to do about the body damage, with a $500 deductable...I'll probably end up paying for the whole repair....
the same thing happend to me with my right rear tire. i knew my tire was going flat, and i was planning on taking my car the next morning to put air in it. the next morning, my dad decided to take my car (i was sleeping, and he said he told me, but i don't remember that). anyway, he called me about twenty minutes after, and said that he got a flat tire. when we changed it, we noticed that it was shredded up on the inside too. he said that it didn't loose that much control, but as soon as he heard the pop, he pulled the car to the side of the road. i was so sad when i saw my S with it's hazards on. i took the tire to discount tire the next day (on a monday), and they replaced it for free. on top of all this, it happend on my religion's christmas day. it sucks, but now i know how often to check the tire pressure.
WOW..... And I thought i was having a rough day @ work. But it's always good to hear other S2K Owners problems and trauma's so I know how to avoid and all. I love cars and now especially my new S2K and want to make sure i treat it good. Dad has always taught me to treat my cars good and Don't want to stop now. So hey any other vital good info you guys got for me SHOOT! I need the help since i've only had my car a week. (But I just learned to keep an eye on the tire pressure)
Sorry to hear about your troubles Colin. Since you sell Hondas, can't you get a deal on getting them fixed?? The damage doesn't look that bad. At least the rear light housing wasn't cracked.
The tire probably has about 9000 miles on it, it's actually looking pretty good for it's age (10 months or so). Our store does not have a body shop, I'll have to send it out and have it done. The pisser is that if it was just 1/8" lower, it would only have hit the bumper! There is a vertical scratch on the bumper below the dent, which also has the paint scraped off, exposing the metal. Yes, I mentioned to my wife that we are lucky that light housing wans't cracked! When we swapped cars this morning, I told her she better not come home with any damage to MY car!
Sorry to hear about your misfortune Colin. Is April the cursed month for our S2000's or what?! Rick, you better be extra careful for the next couple of weeks.
