Exclamation J.D. Power & Assoc. Vehicle Dependability Study

http://www.jdpower.com/autos/article...S:-Sporty-Cars

The Honda S2000 is tied with BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxter as the most dependable compact premium sports car. It's the 2005 model year, mind you. And it's J.D. Powers, but I'd say it's still more respectable than some of the other periodicals (et al) that we won't mention - Forbes.

Edit: As someone pointed out, the S2000 is first place and the Z4 and Boxter are tied for second. Here is a summary of the rest: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-j-d-po...y-study/964227/

Go ahead and mention it. Consumer Reports. As far as I know their opinion is based on consumer polls for the most part and we are after all consumers.

Nice to know the S is reliable. It doesn't surprise me given Honda's reliability record.

The Boxster is as dependable as the S2000? Search any boxster forum to see how dependable it is. Especially the posts on the intermediate shaft failures and main bearing seals. The electrical system isn't nearly up to par with the S2000.

I was looking at boxster since I think the performance would be better for my roads than the S2000. I was turned off by the threat of motor failures in those cars.

It's not just the boxsters from what I have heard from the dealers. I was told they have been trying to beef up the water cooled flat sixes since they were noticing the failures.

Correction, the S2000 is all alone as #1 in the 3-year JDE poll. The Boxter/Z4 pair tied each other for 2nd place, not 1st.

Anyway, I put more weight behind Jeremy Clarkson's very credible assessment.

you don't hear of many problems with these cars at all except for the occasional fluke of overrevving by downshifting too low

IMO the soft top tears are a pretty common problem, and a major one at that. I don't think the S deserves to be on that list really.
