i just had a copy made today. i was hoping just to use the copy key with the stock key on the key ring. unfortunately, the car doesn't start so it seems like i'll be following rick's lead in getting the immobilizer in the key.

Without the immobilizer it's just decoration . Yes, the immobilizer postion is critical if it is to work. Basically, it has to be in the same position in the key head.
