Thumbs up JDM Paint Codes

My bf is thinking about repainting his car, since his work (FinishMaster) said they could get him a good deal on it.

So I was looking at some JDM colors. I found the paint codes for them, but I'm wondering if they'd even be able to get these colors (or match them), since they're not regular colors here. I went to Sherwin-William's automotive site, and put in a couple of the paint codes that I have, and they didn't come up in their database. I tried some USDM Honda colors, and they were there...

Anyone know about this? I think it'd be nice if he could get the Platinum White or even Moonrock...

I am sure ANY paint color could be matched.

Why couldn't they?

Well, if they don't have a sample of the real thing to match, how would they? It's not like you can just take a picture and match it...

If you can't use the paint code, it is possible to maybe get a European or Japanese S2000 owner to send you a bottle of touch up paint from the color you want? That should allow you to get a sample. The touch up paint should be fairly cheap..

With the exception of the lime green and montecarlo blue...all the s2000 colors are available in the us. Just not non the s2k.

The orange is on the NSX and pearl on the RL.
If want to find a color, let me know what you want, Ill help you.

By the way, the best selection of colors is BMW individual paint.

What year RL is the white on? According to Acura's site now, the RL has Premium White Pearl, which sounds different from the Platinum White (premium color) I like, but maybe it's the same?. And I don't think they have Moonrock here either...

And though we're not interested in the Monte Carlo blue, I thought it was available on the NSX a few years ago...

My thoughts exactly. I think the MC Blue was on the NSX (at least at one time or another). It's just not available on the S2000 here in the US.

The paint codes is a universal identification tag, meaning if one manufacturer uses a particular code, another would not if it's a different color. Any smash/body repairer/paint shop will be able to pull up whatever mixture paint codes they need to get the required color code. Every color is mixed with something to get it to whatever required.

The naming of what manufacturer calls it is not important, it's the color code issued by the manufacturer that determines what the color type it is. Spies and Hecker (Colors Unlimited) is a good paint base.
