the immobilizer is in the ECU (I think).

if you replace your ecu with an ECU with no immobilizer, your current key WILL work.

Okay, seriously - If you're swapping in a ECU that does not have the immobilizer function, you still need a key to physically turn in the lock on the steering column. Therefore if you want to go with an 04 key you'll have to get an 04 lock - the keys are completely different. So if you want to make it all work you'll also need to replace the locks on both doors and the trunk. In any case, you can purchase a blank key from any Honda dealer - I've heard they're about $120 USD.

Not necessarily. He can always (1) open his doors/trunk with the existing remote; or (2) carry two keys, the old key for the doors/trunk and the new '04 key for the ignition (which has to be replaced to match the '04 key); or (3) never lock his doors (or always leave the top down) and use the trunk button in the storage compartment.

Then, just buy Rick's key badges;you'll have very good looking keys,at a fraction of the cost.
