I would bet the arseholes broke the turn signal stalk while trying to open the doors after cutting the top.

This reminds me of why I had done the trunk button mod... In stock form, the trunk button works wihtout the key being in the ignition. Silly. So, you can re-wire it so that the trunk will not open if the key isn't on. I lost the link for the DIY, but I am sure someone can find it. They never would have gotten into your trunk with this mod. It was a simple cut and splice of a couple wires.

 

I'm interested in the trunk mod too if anyone has the URL.
