Default Just bought my first s2k

It's a year 2000 model convertible. Excellent condition.

I've heard lots of people crash because they take the car for granted in terms of it's speed.

Is it bad in the rain? do ppl always tailspin if they do sharp turns?

I did my research about the car and Hondas reliability is this true also?

If not what are the common problems you guys find with the s2k

What advise can you guys give a freshman?

I'm sure there are plenty Help !

thanks

P.S I'm from the UK so I don't bluddy understand why on earth I got a yanki flag next to my username PS I love the USA & Japan of course

A crash is inevitable in any vehicle if its capability is taken for granted. Being a RWD car, be careful how you accelerate out of corners, especially in slick conditions.

The reliability is there, with proper care. While Honda is known for their reliable engineering, its on the owner of the vehicle to make it work. Keep up the maintenance and use the car within its limits and you should have it running for a long, long time.

For an AP1 like yours, check out the Under The Hood section stickies and look for known issues. Plenty of information there to sift through.

Only advice I can give you is to properly maintain the car and take your time learning how she responds to inputs. Some patience up front will lead to alot of fun.

Welcome...and you could probably change your flag by looking over your profile options.

"I've heard lots of people crash because they take the car for granted in terms of it's speed." - A lot of people crash because of their own stupidity

Is it bad in the rain? - It's not bad if you have good tires and don't try to push the car like it's dry out.

do ppl always tailspin if they do sharp turns? - no

I did my research about the car and Hondas reliability is this true also? - maintain the car properly and you won't have too many problems

If not what are the common problems you guys find with the s2k - lack of driver skill

What advise can you guys give a freshman? - Learn your own driving limits before you try to find the limits of the car.

All around the S is a great car. You just need to know your driving skill so you don't put it in a ditch, or total it. Final thing is don't be intimidated by the car.

LOL @ the flag comment.

There's a thread stickied in this forum called "what to look for when buying a used S2000." In that thread there's a list of things to go over on the car after you buy it.

Find pictures of spring spacers and make sure they have been removed from your springs. The are installed for shipping and some dealers forget to remove them. Members have found them after 10's of thousands of miles. Or 16's of thousands of kms as the case may be.

I like this thread, "Everything I learned from S2ki":

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=488830&st=0

Make sure you check your top for wear points, protect the spots that rub and maybe get the Modifry Strap Fix if your elastic straps are dead.

I don't know if seat theft is an issue across the pond like it is here but there's a thread in S2000 Talk where you can find seat locks for sale from our member, Kodokan.

There are a bunch of FAQ threads stickied in the various sub-forums so check those out.

Did you find the secret compartment?

Welcome!

DEcelerating around corners causes oversteer more so than ACcelerating.

Power-on oversteer in the S isn't that big a deal, it just doesn't have that serious a power/weight ratio. People get into trouble when the back end starts to twitch and they LIFT off the gas or worse, stab the brakes. Oversteer aplenty follows...
