Just bought S2000, couple Q's.....
Hello guys!!
I am new to the Honda tuning, or at least to the S2000 tuning. I have owned many cars, E46 M3, 800hp Supra and many other "Tuner" cars so I am pretty knowledgable about cars. I flew out to San Diego to pick up this car and bring it back to my home in Scottsdale AZ, here are the specs;
02' Sebring Silver, Black Interior
42k Miles
17" Tenzo Wheels
Invidia Cat back Exhaust
Tein Springs
AEM CAI
DC 4 into 1 header
Here are my questions;
1. This exhaust is LOUD. I mean my Supra wasn't even this loud with an open wastegate at WOT. The guy i bought it from said this was one of the quitest exhausts for this car. No kidding after driving it 350 miles yesterday I honestly lost some of my hearing and my ears were ringing all night.
2. The convertible top latches keep falling down, especially on a bumpy surface. I am assuming that they just need to be replaced, but I wanted to see if there was a fix for it.
3. What is the best place to find used OEM parts for these cars? I have a cracked front bumper and I am more than likely in the market for an OEM exhaust.
Thanks for the help guys!!
Ryan

What's up Ryan. Congrats on the car. We look forward to seeing you around. Come out to a meet sometime. We also have a local forum on here.
1. You may be able to find someone local that has the OEM exhaust sitting around.
2. Don't know about latches on AP1's.
3. AZ people get a discount at Earnhardt Honda. I also like www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. They have the whole inventory online.

1. With the top down, at 70+, the car is loud enough with stock exaust. Though not loud enough to cause ringing, it will make you feel like you've been to a concert. I believe that most convertables are this way. Grab some ear plugs until you get the stock exaust. I sometimes use the Etymotic ER-4 or Shure E5c earphones when I have the top down. This actually protects my hearing.
2. I believe that they are adjustable. Anyone else know?
3. That's a local question, though I've heard that Flagstaff honda has good prices.

The Invidia is one of the loudest exhaust out there. Post it up for sale at a reasonable price and it will go fast. Then buy what you want.
The latches will most likely need to be repaired by replacing the springs or the strikers.
OEM parts you can go to hardtopguy or even online or for cheaper items, your stealership.

Thanks Guys! I appreciate all of the responses. The car needs to be cleaned up a little becuase I am an absolute perfectionist with my cars, like I am sure all of us car nuts are! Let me know on the local meets!!!
he told you the invidia was one of the quietest? the convertible latches keep falling down? does the latch actually disengage (like the top can go down) or just the handle part of it falls down? i would assume that even if the handle just fell down, it would unlatch the convertible top which is a big no-no.. that should def. be fixed/replaced before you do any freeway driving.. you dont want the top to suddently prop open while ur giong 70+
you should check the for sale section of the forum and the group buys, there are some pretty sweet deals if you look around

i dont remember the latch being adjustable, but there should be springs in there... pray that its fixable coz my latch was $145 when i got it to replace the broken ass one.
try to trade your exauhst somewhere in your local forums so you will not have to worry about not having stock exauhst for the time being.
you should post a pic of the latch when it falls off so people will know what you're talking about, and could give better help. the best thing i could say is to buy new latches and replace em. dont risk your top flying open on the freeway coz that'll cost you way more down the line.
good luck, and congrats with your new S

Congrats on the new car. I am sure the drive to AZ was nice (excelt for the loud exhaust) his time of year. I love the Phoenix area.
The person that sold you the car was lying. The Invidia is one of (if not THE) loudest exhaust on the market. Many people like them and you can get silencers for it if they didn't come with it. There are many exhaust systems that are quieter and still give you a deeper/ louder sound than OEM. Listen to other cars or sound clips here and find one you like. As suggested above, you may be able to trade with someone or just buy a different system outright and sell the Invidia.
As for the strikers, I am sorry, I can't help you there.
In AZ, Flagstaff Honda does do some specials on line or hardtopguy.com. I bought a new front bumper from him for about $350 shipped.

Needless to say I am not happy with the previous owner. The autotrader ad said "Brand New" tires, like an idiot I flew in and left with the car before doing an absolutely thorough inpection, I get home and they are completely bald. I mean BALD, the outer edges have less than 1/4" tread, of course the inner half are completely bald do to the negative camber. The kid (18 years old) said that they were brand new and me driving it 400 miles on uneven pavement did this
First off, I own a shop and like to think I am fairly knowledgable with cars, so this is a real insult. Not sure if I should persue a suit with him or just eat the new tire cost.
