Default Just checked my spark plugs...........

Hi all,

Since I picked up a torque wrench this weekend, I decided to break it in by checking my spark plugs. 1,2,3 cylinder was ok, however the #4 cylinder was quite a bit looser. I imagine no more than 2-3 ft/lbs. My car has 10k miles and it is unbelievable that this plug has come this loose.

As others have said in previous posts. Check your plugs!!

No problem! Some torque to 19 lb*ft due to tendency to loosen (not in the manual). Either way, it night be well to retorque any new plug placed after a few hundred miles or so.

I don't think the spark plug "backs out". I think the heat cycles of the engine warming up and cooling down put cyclic stress on the washers. They fatigue to a "thinner" state, and pass less force through them. Retorqueing to the 13 ft*lb spec is a good idea every oil change. I wouldn't overtorque it once and be done with it, seems like a bad idea (sorry xviper).
