Just drove a s2k for the first time today...
..and to be perfectly honest, it felt somewhat slow.
i know this is going to turn into a flamefest but that's not what i'm trying to do here.
now, here's what happened, i called a honda dealer to drive a used one with 18k miles cuz i wanted to really push it and see how fast it was.. when i got there they had trouble with their used car key dispenser and the guy said 'let's take a new one out'.
this one had 80 miles, so obviously the engine wasn't broken in.. and he let me take it all the way to redline (actually i took it to like 8500rpms as i entered the freeway) and frankly the high end pull just wasn't there..
i mean, i know the cars get faster as you gain miles, but i don't think it will get THAT MUCH faster than a brand new car, does it?

2 people in the car, big difference. Besides, the S2K doesn't feel fast/quick at all, only cars with lots of torque would feel quick. For example, BMW330 feels quicker than the S2K, but it really isn't.
You drive an SI, you should know. Above 30mph, the S2K is a lot quicker than the SI. Highway-speed even more.
Anyway, people don't buy the S2K to go fast on straight road. We buy the S2K for its superb handling.

First of all, that salesman was a real A-hole to let you take it into VTEC with only 80 miles on it. The dealer should knock off at least $5k off the sticker just for allowing that to happen. Secondly, did you floor it? I mean, you really feel the VTEC kick in when you floor it. You may not get the VTEC experience if you gradually accelerated. Also, what kind of car are you used to? If you've driven Vettes, then there is no comparison. The S doesn't have the same power curve.
to be honest, what type of car are you used to? it all depends on what you drive now. if your in a vette or some other high horse killer it may seem slow. this car is more like a bike, i think in terms of power delivery. hopefully your not comparing to your civic!
You need more time in the seat to fully appreciate the car. If you want the feeling of power, you may want to look elsewhere. The S2000 rewards a little bit of concentration, experience, and finesse.
Here's an excerpt from the latest Car & Driver magazine that might interest you:
[I]"Those of us who care about cars and driving are interested in how a car performs, not just what it can do. Since we can't express that how in objective numerical terms, our subjective observations and judgments are the most important part of our vehicle evaluations.
"At the same time, however, these subjective observations are sharper and more accurate when they are built on a foundation of objective data. Take the Honda S2000, for example. Unless you row its gearbox aggressively and keep its engine above 6000 rpm, it doesn't feel terribly quick. In fact, you'd probably never guess it could go from standstill to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds

I wasn't impressed with my first one or two short test drives. My purchase was an act of faith from comments on this MB by the owners. But when I drove it over 10 miles home, I realised I'd made a great purchase. (I'd had a Z3 before). And I didn't even rev over 6K until after the the required mileage. Blast to drive. Tossable, responsive, steering, shifting all 1st class.
There are times when I am driving mine and it feels faster that hell, but other times when it doesn't feel quite so fast. I would assume that it depends on a lot of factors such as air temp, available traction, road grade (uphill/downhill) etc... But, one thing is constant, EVERY TIME I get out of it after driving it, as I am walking away from it, I look back at it sitting there and just can't wipe the grin off my face.
Absolutely no regrets. Would buy another one in a heartbeat. I love this car!

Are you serious? Did you buy yours off a dealer lot? Do you actually think nobody ran the piss out of it for a few minutes before you bought it? Be realistic.

I am still breaking the car in, but I can tell you it can feel slow off the line if you don't give it enough revs. The car bogs down.
But this is a fast car as has been documented 0-60 in 5.2 sec and 1/4 in 13.9 sec.

I had a similar reaction the first time I drove a friends S2000. It didn't seem as fast as I expected. Now that I have been driving one for the last few weeks I have a totally different impression of the car. IMHO I think in addition to not having a lot of torque, the car is very stable which gives me the impression that I am not going as fast as I actually am.
