Default Just got my 4.56s installed

OK they're in my car. Got them from HTG with comptech re-enforced dif core swap + yellowbox.

Thanks for all the help and advice (esp. xviper)

thanks Jeff (hardtopguy) great service.

My impressions, so far I've just driven 15 miles with mostly stop and go traffic, but a few times I was able to punch it. It def has some extra pep, but IMO it's not night and day. Was much easier to crawl along in low RPMs.

The biggest thing I did notice was a hum or whine, not terrible, but def something extra. I can hear it mostly when coasting, not under acceleration. It's not that bad, but even with the radio on I can hear it. And this is with a hardtop and all the windows closed.

OK gonna drive it a bit more to see if I can pick up any more. But so far (for my opinion) I'm hard pressed to say it's a "must have" mod (yet), but the S2000 is a great car stock, so it's not like there should be one small part that will transform it magically into a much better car.

I'd like to hear more after you have a chance to drive the car more. Been thinking of gears for a while now so I'd appreciate your input.

thanks,
Dave

sorry you're not diggin it. please let us know how you feel after some more driving and after break in is over.

don't you feel like the tranny engages easier and the car feels lighter or moves with much less effort?

Interesting post. I am debating 4.56 vs. 4.77 myself.

If you live near hardtopguy you may be able to get them installed easier. These guys did a good job, but they charged me a lot to do it.

They had never done a yellowbox, so they charged me $150 for that. I gave them how-to instructions from this web site, and they did a GPS calibration so I think they did it well. But I was not without some fear that it could have gone wrong somewhere.

Well I'm gald its done, I'll let you know motre after a while.

4.77s may not be a bad idea.

And the 4.77s will have more pep.

I haven't driven them yet on the HW.

But (maybe) the 4.77s would be too much on the HW at 80 mph.

For instance at 80 mph:

4.1
5th gear 5150 rpm
6th gear 4300 rpm

4.56
6th gear 4800 rpm

4.77
6th gear 5000 rpm

I am more thinking about getting to speed quickly during autoX's. I don't do a lot of highway in the S. I would like the CT diff in case I ever get to go with a SC, but that seems like it's never going to happen due to the cost. Maybe just a set of 4.77's would be just fine.

The down side of 4.77's is they do not have the strength of the 4.56's.

I'll get back to you all.

I've had my car stock for 3 years.

The point is, I should remember how it was without the mod, whereas some people that get the mod straight off may not have a good impression of how the stock car drives.

My next mod is a K&N intake, maybe it'll add a few hp, and maybe the intake sound will cover the gear sound.

BTW, I'm not a street racer, but I do take off like a bat at times. I love to see normal people disapear in the rear-view, or to show my friends (let them drive my car) to see how much pep a little I4 can have.
