The basic speed law doesn't apply in California. It is one of those states that if you go 1 MPH over the speed limits your breaking the law and they can ticket you for it. Well I think that is what I remember from driver's ed anyway.

You'll have to pay an extra $25 or so in court costs to get traffic school, then you'll have to pay the traffic school a fee of about $25 as well. Traffic school is to keep points off of a California license. If you're in the military and your license is in some other state it might not make a difference.
