Default Just picked up my 2002 S2000

Just picked it up last Tuesday night. (SPA YELLOW) I believe #1087 by the vin#. I have owned many go fast cars, but this has to be the best I have had yet. Looked at many other cars that were more practical, but this was the right choice, my wife even likes it! Got it home just as the weather turned bad. Hopefully, when my dealer gets the spoiler in, it will be nice out so I can take it back for the install. Also, got a great deal on it.
Picking it up was neet to. As soon as my salesperson parked it in front of the showroom, people swarmed around it. They had to pull it back inside! He couldn't show me how the top works because it was cold out, so I will figure it out later.
A few questions though.
1. Does the car really need to be off to work the top and why?
2. Do the tops leak? Mine leaks on both side just from a light wash.
3. Is going from 6th to 4th hard to do, or does everybody hit 2nd by accident? 6th to 3rd is a piece of cake.
4. If you get a flat on the rear, how does Honda expect you to move the tires a stated in the owners manual with only one jack? Did the guys at Honda make a bet and want to watch us do this and see who put a rotor on the ground first?

Things I have noticed in my first 60 miles.
1. Just like many of you have said, these tires/car does not like the white stripes on the road when cold.
2. The car is a hoot to drive.
3. No passenger airbag switch, I have to kids.
4. I have the urge just to get in and drive.

The car doesn't need to be off to work the top, just the park brake needs to be engaged. The car gets better and better everytime you drive it! Truly unbelievable. I've had mine for 10 days now and put 1,100 miles on it.

Congrats!

2. The top shouldn't leak. The sides will "drip" once the door is opened after a wash, but should not leak if the window is completely closed.

3. Downshifting could be tricky to some, there have been reports of some going into 1st instead of 3rd, and overreving the engine. That can cause serious engine damage that is not covered by warrantee. Practice at low revs and it shouldn't be a problem.

4. Jack up front, remove tire, replace with spare, lower front, jackup rear, remove flat, replace with front.

Your first impressions are common. Check out the NTSB.GOV website to find airbag switch installers. I have one installed.

Pray for a short winter or move to SoCal.

Congrats!

1. No, the car doesn't need to be off. You just need to have the parking brake up when you are trying to put the top up or down.
2. I haven't had any leaks yet.
3. Give it some practice. After a while it should be no problem for you. Just be sure to be careful or you'll end up blowing your motor.
4. I haven't had a flat yet...but it shouldn't be a problem with only one jack.

Have fun with it and be sure not to take it to crazy during the break in period

congrats and welcome to the family!

top operates fine when car is running. i think they meant that you shouldnt run the car (as in moving) when opening or closing the top. Parking brake just need to be activated. i think there may be a sensor that shuts off the switch at speeds higher than like 10 mph too.

I wash my car weekly and no leaks at all. just do not spray water at the seal on top as there are obvious area the water would come in if water is directly applied at that seal (Watch as the top opens and closes, and you will see that the top seal only closes onto itself without and real seal.

6-4 shifts are easy once you get used to the car. You may consider letting the shifter free float for a split second so that the shifter centers, before pulling it straigh down to 4th. works great for me.

I had a RW flat. It was a PITA to pull the frt first, swap with spare, then pull frt wheel and replace flat rear wheel, and then, move stuff in trunk around to accomodate rear wheel in trunk. That being said, call Hondacare or AAA. Much better alternative.

But in all seriousness, break in the car properly for the first 600 miles, watch the oil levels at every fill up for that period, and then enjoy the drive! It still make me do thiss everytime I drive it!==>

Welcome and Congratulations!

Mine gets a little damped around the edge between the top and the window when I wash the car, its fine when it rains. I had mistakenly shifted into 4th when I went for 6th, haven't skipped gears yet.

Have fun with your new S2000; its getting cold, becareful out there

Congratulations, David1!

I know what you are going through. I just picked up my Suzuka Blue one week ago.

I had also looked into airbag switches because I want to drive my son around as well but have decided not to install one. There are no local installers close by on the list as suggested and I don't want to take a chance with just anyone working on the car. If a certified Honda technician is willing to install it (ie. familar with working on Hondas), I may do it.

The owners manual seems to 'word' it that if you must carry small children, placing the passenger's seat as far back as possible and properly installing the childseat is adequate. The did not go so far as to suggesting installing a switch to turn the airbag off, probably a liability issue for a car manufacturer.

Any ways, happy driving and Merry Christmas!

The rubber seal between the window and the top gets alittle damp after washing (looks like a white film inbetween the top and glass because of water mixed with soap.. however it doesn't drop into the car.
