Default K&N 57-3514 FIPK NEW!

K&N FIPK 57-3514 for the S2000 is available at E-bay right now for $244.95 shipped. I have been looking at this setup for some time and decided that the price is right. The concept behind the K&N FIPK is similar to the Comptech Airbox assembly but uses the hood as the top of the airbox and K&N's oiled filter.

I have used K&N filters on a number of motorcycles and cars and have found them to be quality products. Although I haven't seen the FIPK for the S2000, I have seen the Generation II products for other vehicles and the workmanship of the product seems to be quite good.

K&N's website shows a dynoed 9.5HP gain on a MY00 S2k. I don't know how much to read into that as it wasn't done by an independent lab, however K&N is a pretty reputable firm. My guess is that actual street performance gains will be somewhat less, however it should help a bit and sound nice too.

I will followup with a report once I get it installed and run with it for a few days.

Grandpup wants to hit the Mini-golf links so gotta go!

Can't you just buy the drop in replacement K&N filter for our airbox instead of spending all this extra money?

I have always had good luck with K&N products and the general design is pretty well proven. However, I wouldnt swallow that 9.5 hp number. I cannot imagine where they got that from.

At about $100 less than the comptech it doesnt seem like a bad price or product. Especially since you dont run the risk of hydrolock.

I had looked at this system too, but was skeptical of the 9.5whp gain. Tell us how it is when you get it.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the 9.5.

Dropping a K&N Filter in the original airbox will perhaps help with airflow over time as the K&N maintains efficiency longer, but the difference would be negligible I would think. The other option is to modify the OEM airbox, I am hesitant to do this for two reasons, one, it can't be put back to original condition if I am unhappy with the results without spending even more money than what the K&N FIPK costs; and two, if and/or when I sell the S2K, I would like to be able to get it back to stock, people are often wary about buying a used car that looks like it has been modified.

The Generation II FIPK from K&N replaces the entire airbox and intake with a more efficient system. The airbox is designed to provide much less restriction and still allow for cooler air from the front of the bumper to be brought in as opposed to a traditional short RAM intake.

I am currently using a radmat setup and thought I would also insulate the K&N airbox as well to provide more protection from heat. It may not be pretty but it should provide good airflow and decrease heat to hopefully avoid bogging down in the South Texas heat.

I will report on the results and post some pictures when I get it installed.

BTW - Another advantage is that the airbox is still somewhat protected from the elements and is is easy to service as well.

As mentioned before, I'm also not going to hold my breath either!

Sounds like a good plan.

When I read Laguna Vista I assumed California but you say South Texas. Are you near Houston?
