Kauai Suzuka Blue
Was in Kauai Hawaii week of oct 19-26 and saw a Suzuka blue on hwy 56 coming and going from Princeville area. Anybody on this board?? Noticed that the top was up!!!!?????!!!! Why would anyone put the top up in Hawaii. Sadly, I was in a rental camaro convertible-what an abomination that beast is.
<Grip> ... Here you go 808S2K! You need one! HOT in Hawaii? Har, Har, Har. Come visit the Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas, and the arid parts of Southern Cali. We'll show you hot ( ... and the top's down most of the time.)
I understand--having spent 11 years on Florida's panhandle--it's the humidity, right? I'm just amused thinking about being HOT in Hawaii, when I don't think I've ever seen the Weather Channel report Hawaii as much over 80. Claim it's hot when the temp gets over 105, and wear a hat with the top down when it's less than that!
I guess it's all just relevant to what you're used to.
Be cool
but I wish we had some of that summer heat back! It's freakin' cold here -- 38! (I know, 38 is fine weather--spent 2 years in Minot, ND, and 38 qualifies as spring time. Like I said, it's all relevant.)
It's not the heat or the humidity. Hawaii is much further south than anything on the US mainland. It's about the same latitude as Mexico City. So the sun is much more directly overhead, and the UV rays have a shorter path through the atmosphere.
That's why you can get burned to a crisp before you even know you're hot. So either lather on the sunscreen or drive in the shade.
P.S.....it also rains a lot on the north and east side of Kauai. Princeville is on the north coast.

Holy cow! Direct sun rays! Get out the gold coated visors and anti-nutrino helmets! I'm glad I couldn't go topless at 50,000' MSL. Those direct sun rays are definitely killers, especially if you are closer to them than the Eskimos! 80 degrees F is definitely hotter in Hawaii than a Tucson summer 118 degree day any time it happens. KEEP YOUR TOPS UP IF THE SUN SHINES!
All kidding aside, if it's hot, use the damn air conditioner and put the top up--you paid for it. Of course as the temperatures dip below freezing in a lot of the country, that sounds pretty silly!
Having visited Kona two weeks ago for the Ironman World Championship and driven the Big Island with Spanky for half a day, if I lived there, my top would never be up, except for the occassional rain
